Advice on parts

Postby Teglen » Thu Mar 10, 2011 12:29 pm

Hi all,

Getting to grips with my GTA ('86 Turbo), and looking to update/renew a few things. Have already fixed door locks, trip computer, and regapped spark plugs - plus ordered some nice NGK platinums to boot :D

I'm also thinking of the following, and would appreciate any comments/advice please:

  1. Exhaust.Within 6-12 months I reckon it'll be blowing, would like to put a stainless on. Saw this: ART Stainless. Any good? or is this just as good? ART Mild Steel
  2. The GTA has had a new set of Safrane leads put on, are these okay? Was wondering whether to put a set of Magnacor on, or is that a waste of money?
  3. Hoses: mostly got original hoses, but they're in okay condition. Any recommendations on changing the lot?

Thanks, appreciate any help.

My advise would be to get an exhaust made for it. Don't bother with ART unless you want to wait 6 months for nothing to arrive (just what I have heard not personal experience).

If i was you i would fit a set of samco hoses on as the standard hoses will be very old and could strat leaking, either water or boost!! Ask clee http://www.renaultalpinetuningservices.co.uk/ he sells them.

As for the exhaust a stainless system would deffo be a good idea, I have recently got one on my A610 and it is far better and sounds like a super cr now. Roadspeed has one of these on the shelf call him on 01453 750864

Hope you are enjoying the car bud, looked like a good one. Get it to prescott this year!

Thanks for the advice re: ART, I had read a few things on the forum and thought it was best to ask.

Also thanks for the tip on Roadspeed... although I did try a quick Google and it seems their website is no longer operating? Funnily enough, I'm in Cheltenham today/tomorrow so I'll give that number a ring and maybe stop by on the way back to Wiltshire.

As for Prescott... definitely want to do that, A) to meet some fellow GTA owners, and B) it's the weekend before me and some friends go to the Alps for a week long driving holiday :D

And I'll speak to clee about hoses too.

You can get exhausts from Mecca parts via Andy who lives in France and commutes to the UK.

Not sure if you are a paid up member, but this would give you better availability and better prices too.

See you at Prescott.

Is it a requirement of membership to have a profile icon depicting bouncy boobs? is that why my membership is taking so long to approve? (as I've got a boring picture of a GTA instead)

...goes away to Google "bouncy boob gif"... this make take some time

no bouncy boobs are an option , to get what you need you just have to nag, and nag, every day and you'll get it in the end.

Those exhausts listed on the ARR website by the way are the same as those sold by mecaparts in France at a much cheaper price. You'd be better off simply ordering one from mecaparts if you were to want one of those and getting it much more cheaply to boot! And the sound clip on the ARR website isn't of that exhaust either. It's actually the sound of my exhaust, which is completely different to that shown. Mine is basically an non-silenced stainless steel tube. That sound clip is ripped off my youtube video here
