Airbag/Service light, on

Postby steveatyork » Tue Mar 15, 2011 9:20 pm

The daughters had a aftermarket steering wheel fitted to her Clio V6 for the last year or so, she has put up with the airbag/service light been on, we have just put the standard wheel back on it and the light is still on :( Any ideas if this needs turning off at a Renault dealer or should it have gone off on its own with the standard airbag wheel fitted?

Hi steve,
The air bag system does a self test every time the ignition is switched on
So once you put the standard airbag wheel back on the light should have come on for a few seconds then went out , you may have a problem elsewhere eg seatbelt pre tensioner wiring fault or airbag squib fault which are both common on clios. Hope this helps. Ps any garage with a diagnostic tool should be able to find the fault instead of going to the main stealers..

get a resistor fitted to fool the ecu that the airbag is still in the electric circuit, you can fit any wheel to it then and the light will stay off
