... more wiring help needed...

Postby rupert » Sat May 07, 2011 10:43 am

Okay, just a quicky. I'm trying to get the water temp gauge working.

So I have std sensor in the driver's side of the thermostat housing. Two terminals on it. (The nearside one is serving the ECU now)

The loom I have has a pair of brown wires, a pair of black wires and a heat insulated pair of wires all nearby.
I think the heat insulated pair are supposed to run to an engine temp sensor near the exhaust on the passenger side for the blower fan.

But what colours are supposed to go on the temp sensor?

Rupert, according to the manual, the two wires going via a plug to the temp sensor, are 1. Brown with a white tracer (or dash), and 2. Brown with a mauve tracer. However I have just checked mine and it appears that I have 2 pink wires going to the plug of the sensor :? . I did not check for tracers. but this Pink colour might be aged Brown colour.....who knows.(or I might be colour blind  )
The two white wires did in fact go to an air temp sensor, which on the Atmo was mounted on the near side exhaust heat shield.
The Black ones, I suspect, went to the micro switch which was operated when the twin choke carbs were actuated by vacuum on hard acceleration.
Hope this helps.

I didn't think spiders had much boot space, but you've changed my mind
