Renault Avantime V6 - tuning advice.

Postby gregstark » Thu May 19, 2011 3:09 pm

What tuning can be done to the Renault V6 in the Avantime to get the power up from 210 bhp to around 250/260 bhp (which is what was originally planned)?

bearing in mind its the same motor as in the clio v6 the options are limited. Going to ph1 clio would give you 230bhp at best and many have spent loads on these motors with very little gain.

Isn't that the engine in the Venturi Atlantique 300- with twin turbo's?
That might be the only option?

There's a guy in CAR that has tuned up his Clio V6.
He's done a lot to it, I think - inlet manifold, and who knows what else. Sounds awesome - especially when on the track without the engine cover in - but I've no idea what power it's making

We have a Laguna II with the 3.0 V6 24v engine.

Word has it on RenaultForums that the gearbox cannot take anymore HP and its already pretty much at its limit. I believe the gearbox is derived from Mazda ?.

When was the last time the plugs were changed ?. Some people do not bother since the inlet manifold has to come off.
I did ours, and they were a right state. Probably not been done in 4+ years. New filters and mobil 1 certainly woke the engine up.

Nothing on the Avantime is ever easy! The engine's recently been serviced (new plugs, oil, filters, all that good stuff), so should be in reasonable health. On the gearbox front it is an automatic  - I do apologise for such language in this august forum. But who knows - maybe the auto's a bit more robust than the 6-speed manual? it could hardly be less, could it?

Cheers people for the responses so far - there must be a way...

forget it you'll just shred the box unless you want to mate it to £12k of sadev as the original will just blow up, this is what we did when we had th v6 320 bhp clio engine in a race spider, it was put back to 2 ltr because of the weight difference in the end....

go a buy a smashed up F355, transplant the avantime body onto it, (hmmmm now there's an idea) it will be cheaper than tuning the original 8)

With a modern power unit, that has no Tuning market, you may be limited to Old School solutions.
Improved induction piping and Filters.
Full performance exhaust system. I recomend LongLife Exhausts who will hand make a performance exhaust system with crossover pipe.

These 2 alone may yeild another 20hp.

This is all good stuff, and much appreciated... can't believe the difference between this lump and the Rover K-series V6 in my GTM. For that I went to QED, they made some new camshafts from billet (based on the profiles for their fast/road 1.8 K-series) and power went from 190bhp to 240bhp. The Bosch-Siemens ECU took a few minutes to reprogramme itself, and the engine's run brilliantly ever since...

If it's the same engine as the clio V6 then there is a fair amount of upgrading you can do but it's not cheap and it will (probably) bust the auto box. Ask SG Motorsport. Ktech have some stuff but they have a poor reputation with the V6 engine.

Very few manual gearbox v6s and they have a poor reputation for strength. this may be one of the rare renault cases (OK, the only time ever) that the autobox appears to be more reliable than the manual.
And the autobox aint great!
