Running problem

Postby Jon K » Sat May 21, 2011 11:36 am

I am having a running problem with my car when it goes on boost.

The car runs very well generally but when I stick my foot down it falters when it goes on boost. after a bit of faltering it sorts itself out and away it goes.

I suspect it is also running rich.

so after reading a number of posts on here and following Teglen's thread I am suspecting a fuel regulator problem (I have the twin setup).

Does this sound like a regulator related problem? If it does any hints on where to get some?

I have a spare twin reg setup you can have sale or return to try and diagnose.

It does sound fuel related, have you cleaned out your tank and the pipes at the front? They could be full of crap?

Could you PM me an idea of how much you would want for it?

I took the car for a spin yesterday and it didn't miss a beat so I had better have a good check around in other areas as well.

I'd also check the TDC sensor & wiring... a friend of mine suggested it, especially as it runs up by the turbo so gets pretty hot down there.

I have fitted a new sensor a couple of weeks ago. I have just read your other post which is interesting.

I am going to check all of the obvious electrical stuff, cap rotor etc. It should be OK as I have very comprehensive service records but you never know.

BTW does anybody have the part numbers for the genuine cap and rotor, I could only see the Halfords ones in the parts thread and I think Stephen commented that the OEM ones were not that much more.

Hi John, that is great, thank you for that.

Is the best plan to get these from Renault? I wondered if being Bosch items they were available cheaper elsewhere.

Much easier and cheaper to just go and buy them off the shelf from your local motor factors in my experience. They do the job fine and the car runs perfectly well with them. :)

Halfords do the cap for around £35 and the rotor for £15 (I have the rotor fitted to my 610 with no issues).

This looks 99% correct as well if you want a slightly cheaper option:
