Turbo oil feed return

Postby pgoldsmith » Sat Jun 25, 2011 1:26 pm

Just been browsing underneath the car - to find out what size square spanner I need to drain the gearbox with (10mm I believe) - when I noticed the rather large steel pipe entering the sump looks very very corroded.
Believe this is the oil return pipe from the Turbo.

Anybody happen to know the thickness of this pipe? I'm thinking I should be proactive and replace this before it starts leaking.

Can it be changed in situ or is it an engine out job ?

Not as simple as it looks .It has a corrugated section further up behind the head then is shaped to go around the turbo collector bolts to the turbo core ,lower part is a banjo fitting ....Not a simple pipe to copy .
I keep meaning to bin it and make up a easier fitment for both ends ...
Pig to get off ,it will but put aside half a day  .

Paul, can I suggest you get a 10mm square socket, as a spanner won`t do if it is tight, also get an eight point one, as opposed to a normal four point one. as if you have to use a bar as opposed to a ratchet, you might need the 45 degree adjustment to get between the lower cross member and drive shaft.

that pipe is a pain in the back bottom to swap and cost Darren the best part of £200 from Renault a few years back now.
