Well I can advise that everything was going fine scrutineered fine in the que for the first run and I'm 6th away on a damp track, which I know to be very slippery under those conditions. Its time to adopt the the atire so I put my lid on, but I needed to get comfortable as my head is hitting the roof and I bash the ignition key with my knee and in doing so turn the ignition off. I turn the key to restart the engine and I am left holding the plastic part in my mit, the remains of the key blade left in the cylinder :shock: :twisted: The BIATCH strikes again, you think I jest when I say Christine is possessed:shock: I pull all the shrowd off and find that I need the key to position the lock to enable the locating pins to be depressed allowing the removal of the cylinder :? Only Renault would design something like that, i.e needing the key when the most likey cause of changing the cylinder is either due to the key being lost or broken :cry: :cry: :cry: I tried all sorts to try and get the cylinder out...until I got to the point where Artillery fire power was required :twisted: Out came the hammer and screw driver.

The cylinder was forced and I got the car to start, but Mark took the smile right off my face ......."be sure that the steering lock wont lock on" he said:shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock: :shock:

I had a vision of me hurtling down the main straight approaching a ton and the car not turning right and going straight on :roll: I knew at that point the lock had to come out altogether. Having missed two runs I thought I would be able to get the lock out and get two in at least. I ended up chiselling the cylinder out of the steering column which took a reasonabe time but it came out. I accessed the plastic switch and with a screw driver it started on the button :P I turned it off and quickly put it all back together again, cleared the tools out and went to start her for the next run which was about to start. I put the screw driver in the slot and gently turned it but the switch did not feel right it tried to start but the car was doing its own thing the started would not disenguage and even when switched off the engine carried on trying to start but not actually start and then there was smoke and sparks as I frantically tried to switch it off. The isolator switch fitted next to the battery saved the day.

I ended up not being able to shut the drivers side window so taking the door apart to manually close the window. ......It was time to call it a day.

On the upside I had a new lockset for the Le Mans so that was fitted to Christine she is now ready for Sunday at Gurston and already fuelled for a day on the hill.

I was very disapointed but I guess that's Motor Sport :lol: :lol: :lol:

saabs have that same need a key to change the lock thing, but they helpfully show you where to drill to disable the lock in the manual.
Good thing car thieves can't read.

No manual or drill so I suppose I am now a bad car thief I'd have been caught a long time before I got it started, but then I,ve almost admit to caring about Christine :lol: :lol: :lol:

I always think naming a car (or pet) is a crucial point in the relationship.
I tend to give mine object names.....(My Audi is the Tractor due to its smoking and ratting) but for some reason the Smart is George.
The 610 has no name for some reason.

LOL you dont want to know what else I call her everyone says the same thing about the plate the number plate that is.......It reads slot

Why did I not see this trouble coming it was right before my eyes; Dad warned me about them and the nasty irritations they can cause but I just plunder in full bore anyway :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Gurston down turned out to be a fantastic day.
My turbo, Si21's Atmo, Red21s 21 and Cedrics Meganne.
First practice was damp,
Second practice was nearly rained off,
but the afternoon held out for glorious sunshine and the hill dryed off quickly.
Some very nice cars going up the hill, as well as bikes and side cars. From a class of Ferraris (including a 458 Italia), TRs, Ginettas, Cobra, Lotus (22)and Coopers, as well as the BIG boys in their F1-JUDD powered rockets.
Everyone enjoyed themselves, a PB for me 40.21(beating 8 of the 14 Ferraris :-) too), Si21 and cedric did the same (as first timers they even tied) and Red21 was into the 39's.
I will definately be going back to Gurston, that 40s barrier needs beating!

Me too enjoyed the day very much; Christine di her usual so the embaressment of bump starting her and having to leave the engine running whilst waiting for the rest of the batch to finish before returning down the hill. But I did not let the biatch beat me, well so I thought on my last run I definately pushing harded and my intermeadiate times and speed traps suggested that I was going to do my fastest time of the day but with all but the clog up hill to the finish to complete the gearbox baulked going into second gear :? so frustrating luckily it went in on the fourth bite of the apple and still acheived the target time I had set myself of 46 seconds. so my first timed run with just at 44.3 sent me home with a sense of acheivement as a Gurston Virgin :lol: :lol: :lol:
Well done to Cedric who tied with me on exactly the same time :P

I will definately be back and probably before the end of the year.

Si21.....can't you hear the hills a calling :?:

Overall l a good day even though I messed up big time on the last run by hitting the outside kerb at Karousel hard enough to knock me completely of line and loosing me about 1.5s+ for the K-A sector and thus a possible low 38s run & once I’ve analyzed the times from the day I will know for sure.

Had a fantastic day too :D :D

I was all over the place in the wet in the morning but as the conditions improved in the afternoon i managed to put the power down and it was a lot more fun...

only tied with you Si21 coz i didnt want to upset you too much :lol: :lol: :lol:

brilliant hill, cant wait to go back with the GTA this time (hopefully later this year)

guys, I challenge you to professional tidy looking timing struts for the next event, rather than those gaffer tape rich devices.
1986 : '86 GTA v6 BW-EFR turbo, with Adaptronic ECU

LOL :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: Mmmmmmmmm Ive seen your timeing strut constructed out bits of plastic, Cedric realised that his own strut would not fit his change of vehicle at the last minute and I think you'll find that my strut adjustable for height and angle of dangle and made of aluminum is the only timing strut of the three of us that is engineered. The actual method of fixing was initially by screw on my 21 Turbo, but since it was engineered in such away also fits my GTA too :wink: The only reason I was using gaffer tape is because I did want to rely on the single tie wrap you so kindly gave me as to run over your own strut is neither clever nor funny :lol: :lol: :lol: I can advise it was solid as a rock and served its purpose well.

Please send us a picture so that we can marvel at your engineered timing strut Mr T :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I Know I reduced my gap from 6 seconds to 3 and a half seconds but I didn't realise you were going start getting petty dear :lol: :lol: :lol:

its the all new Hethel circuit in Norfolk this weekend, Sunday 7th August anyone interested in coming let me know as a pass is essential. and, no photography(even phone ones being used as a camera).

cracking entry too, 10 reserves, first time I have seen any reserves at a sprint for 2 years. Thankfully I am not one of them and Roger Burgess super fast escort is so fingers crossed he wont get a place! Not very sporting....... I hope it does get a place and for once I might get within 5 seconds of him.
Also, the Anglia that beat me at the first Lydden this year (but I have beaten him every time since, except crystal palace) has been found to have an oversized engine for a Anglia and has therefore now been fitted with a correct size one and is now in the class below me, shame as I enjoyed competing with Ivan.

Lol reference to me at lydden, it does help if you can get to the start line :lol: so i could not agree more :wink:

Cant even get into it now let alone get it to go.somewhere but thats a different part of Chritine the sluts saga :twisted: :roll:
