Coming home from Brands yesterday, whilst plodding on at 70 odd, the oil pressure indicator went from the middle reading to no reading :shock: went immediately into cardiac arrest, then thought about for a while (whilst braking) and decided that if it really had lost all oil pressure, then the engine may give me some indication - some shuddering perhaps, water temp rising or just tightening up.

Anyway, I stopped the car and found that the oil pressure wire had fallen off the sender - previously this was soldered on as the original connection had disappeared :roll:

Glad you found the problem Cedric .The injector plugs are all a bit dodgy so I'd put new in and rewire all the way back to the ' clumps ' where they all meet .


Clee, are you referring to just the connectors that attach to the injector units and their respective wiring ?
Mine did show an intermittant engine management light flickering on and off the other day. Wondered if worn wiring could also be the source.

The original was soldered, if you replace the soldered wire with, say, a crimp connection.....they come loose with the heat and air flow under the car, and give you another heart stopping moment like it did to me at around 85 - 90 mph on way down to Macon.
I have since resoldered the wire on.....much more robust. :wink:

Yes the plugs and wiring .The injector wires all meet in the loom in a big clump then on to the relay via a thicker wire .Easy enough to redo once you've stripped it all back ......

Thanks Clee for the website address, connectors are on order, might as well do a proper job... just need to get some heatshrink to keep the wires together and voila!

not too sure what you mean by clump? i have rewired all the way to the rear of the rocker cover where they all meet into the plastic trunking.

All the wires were in a bad state and most of the damage was in the first 60mm from the coils where the cables are loose and can be moved about. also they are not protected by the bracket on top of the rocker cover so they go thru a lot of heat cycles which does not help...

Mogster there always appears to be something coming up that needs attention and fettling

Apart from the injector wiring and the tps, what other parts of the engine loom fail?
Clee what have you found? Is there any wiring near the manifolds that can cause problems?
Just wondering about some pre-emptive repairs

If you are going to replace the injector plugs then strip the loom right back to the bulkhead .The injector wiring all meets just before it enters the cabin then is a thicker wire to the relay near the ECU .
No point just splicing in new at the end of the rocker cover .Do it right :wink:
