I did mine 5 years ago, and it needs rust proofing and over coating again as all the coating I put on has been removed by road dirt.
Glad its saved now, have you done the battery tray too?

Lee, try POR15, it's very good marine paint, I have used it on my ( SOLID ) wheel arches, it does not chip, I love the stuff, I paint all my components with it, not cheap but worth the extra ££££££
