Odiaham - New Sprint Venue

Postby simontaylor » Sun Aug 14, 2011 10:16 pm

Guys,
A new sprint venue has opened, well actually, it is more of a relaunch, as there were some sprints held here up till the late seventies.
RAF Odiham is the home of the Chinook, and the Odiahm Car Club have offered the venue out to host some organised Motorsport, rather than the circleing Track days and drag days that they have organised in the past.

This Sprint course will be 1.9 miles long, around the sweeping perimter roads, it will be pretty fast and it is likely to be included in some championship events next year.

Saturday 3rd September is your chance to be part of this event and get some runs in before it is used in anger in 2012.

Regulatons and Entry forms available from;
http://www.farnboroughdmc.org.uk/ChinookSprint2011.php
Entry is only £95, includes a convoy run, 2 practice and hopefully 3 timed runs.

The venue demands that it is strictly non-spectator. But if you would like to Marshall, or turn up as a helper...... I can get you in.

Any questions, just ask, as I am involved on the organising comitee.

EDIT, and just so you know, it is actually ODIHAM, which is near Farnham in Surrey.
(Steve, can you repair my spelling in the title?)

Slow times can only be blamed on weak right foot or excessive use of middle peddle.

here is a Sprint course map, you can see it on Google Earth too.
One bit goes past a burned out Chinook.

A few more entries would be nice.
New Venues need support, else next year may not happen.

Best sprint course.....

Best sprint course I have driven to date challenging in every aspect.by which I mean fast and slow open and tightening bends with a long straight that I was getting into 4th 8). The challege was also how deceptive some of the bends were mistakes were madeby more experi.ced drivdrs than myself finding the limits of adhesion and beyond; however there was plenty of wide track and and grass to run of onto.

For once Chrsitine ran started and pulled like a train it was the nut holding yhs wheel that was at fault. I just could not get it together with too many mistakesmistakes losing me time; basically trying too hard with a big 3.6 litre Porshe two 380 brake, 355 Betlinetter's and abreathed upon 7 litre Charger in my class brave or stupid seemed to be the only option! I cid not hower come last my second of.three runs earning me 6th place out of 8. I am still pleased though I beat my target car in my class, a rally prepped TR4a I only beat it by .6 of a second but was delighted to find out feom.a.very good source it was putting out 220 brake
 8). I also beat the Porshe which was being.double driven by the owners wife......fair play to her. Ibeleive I would have been quicker in my last run if I had not been so aggresive with the throttle on a fast right hander with an off camber. The back stepping out easily catchabl, the pendulum affect building quickly not.being so easy. Wrestling the car half the length of the straight I kept hold of her but having come right off the throttle I think it was clear to see where time was lost on the fastest part of the circuit I matched my first timed run.some 1.5 seconds slower.

I hope with some uprated damping next year the car will be more stable through these types of fast bends.

We will definately be back next year to.see.if I can close the gap down on thoze Fezza's  something alittle less embarresing

Top.event not to be missed by anyone who wants to go sprinting next year; fantastic value 2 practice runs plus convoy and three timed runs.

Congratulations to Mr Taylor, Farnborough and District and Sutton and Cheaam motor clubs.....cant wait for next year

Si21...hi Mogster how's the car.....stil a few sprints left at the end of the year

Looking like that for me too just been to the bank

we'll sewwhat can be done maybe the last few sprints and then disapear for a few months between now and the new year saving hard to fund car developments and entries for next year ....bread and water

I still have electricals to sort too I dont count anything that stops the car moving LOL. Fuel gauge is non existant anymore and the fuel consumption around 15 when driven hard and 30 on the open road cruising ...with town driving and the odd bootful who knows where the fuel level is .....going to dip her with a depth gauge or should I say depth charge

Good luck with family addition and the electricals on the car it'll be a process of elimination

si21  look forward to seeing you out in the new year
