Respray Questions

Hello,

My Red 1988 GTA is suffering with serious lacquer pealing. Having sourced all the necessary trim and decided to take the windows out I'm wanting it to be a proper job.

There are many slightly darker spots under the lacquer on certain panels and in certain areas. Is this moisture in the fiber glass, or moisture in the gel coat etc? A resraying firm have said not to worry about this and that simply sanding down to the gel coat will solve the problem. Others have said that the fiber glass needs to be baked after it has been taken down, otherwise the spots will return.

I am unsure what to do.

Can anyone advise, and can anyone explain what the different coloured base coats are ? Is the very thick pink layer the gel coat ? Is the gel coat porous ? It seems that as my friend (a professional sprayer, although with zero fiber glass experience) took down the blister spots along the windscreen when he reached the pink layer they vanished. This says to me that either the pink layer is porous or the moisture sat above it.

I simply don't know, and I'm humbly requesting if anyone can enlighten me as to the best way to proceed if I want a proper job done.

Hi bunglefuzz, i am also located in gloucester your car is not the car that was on a drive in hucclecote is it?? Any how my 610 had some bad blistering on the doors and bonnet as andy say's. All i am going to say to you bud is dont bother with anyone local do what i did and take it up to andy. it is a 3 hour drive from Gloucester. The results were stunning and bening a nothener it was bang cheap are kid!!!! :lol: If you want to see the quality of his work i am more than happy to show you my A610. I am also getting him to do my venturi too. Andy thats another referal how much discount do i get then??? :lol: :lol: :wink:

discount :shock: how can i discount cheaper than chips with perfection thrown in. what would be interesting, take the venturi to the best bodyshop in your area and ask them for a respray quote :lol: get ready for the phone number.

Im only joking buddy, mate I would fall over at the prices in Gloucester and most of them are s**t !!! I still havent decided when to bring it up yet!!!

that will be good, martin will have his A610 respray back. see if you can bring the A610 along aswell it would be a great line up :D
