Hydraulic lifters for turbo engines? Z7U

Hi,
I received a parcel this morning- bidding one Euro on a set of camshafts, tappets and the balance shaft of ZPJ (Peugeot's and Citroen's Z7X engine) was enough to win the auction.

Mi idea was to use the hydraulic lifters for my Z7U-700 engine. The Z7U-700 was the last stage of the 2.5L engine introduced in May 1990: slightly lowered compression, altered camshafts, higher boost pressure resulting in 205HP (20 more if you remove the cat). The engine is supposed to be laggier but revs freer at high rpms.

What do we know about the PRV?
- hydraulic lifters are found in all 3L non-Turbo (z7x) engines but not in the 2.9L (Z7W) versions or 2.5L Turbos.
- the camshafts of the Z7X and Z7W evenfire engines are all identical (same part numbers)
- the A610 and Safrane Biturbo use the non-hydraulic lifters of the earlier engines (same part numbers)
- Renault used a different oil pump in the Z7X
- valve clearances of all Z-engines are the same.

=> All in all hydraulic lifters will mechanically fit to the older engines sans problems.

Two questions arrise:
Why did Renault chose not use hydraulic lifters on the turbo engines? Has anyone tried it anyway? Or will I be the first one? :D

It would be great if someone shared his/ her (err?) knowledge,

No idea,don't think so ,and yes if so :lol:
Oil pump pressure in the Z7X is the same as in the 7U .

It might be something to do with the sodium filled exhaust valves on the 610 (and maybe the GTA Turbo)
Hydraulic lifters may struggle with the temperatures.
not sure why there would be a difference otherwise.

Hi,
well thank you. I might just try it. I will have to adjust the valves clearances anyway.

For the oil pump- I cannot check if the turbos and non-turbos use the same pump because I'd need engine production numbers. Only the z7x always uses the same one which is different to the earlier ones.

Some extra information on the Oil pressure: It is 2,2 bars @ 900 rpms and 4.4bars @ 4000 rpms for the z6w (Alpine V6GT), z7u, z7v (Alpine A310, R30), z7x but lower for the z7w (1/4; Espace, late Renault 25).

What should one watch out for after installing hydr. Lifters? Insufficient oil pressure? Anything else?

Probably due to oil temps or the recommended type of oil.
