HELP!! Getting Parts for GTA Turbo..

Postby The Saint » Sat Sep 24, 2011 12:13 pm

Ok.... So who has got all the spares for these cars??

I have just spent the morning going around all my local car stores and out of the way hidden places, that always seem to find something for my old restoration jobs in the past.. but nothing! not a thing for these cars in any of their reference books???
I am looking for both the handbrake cables to start with... but I am NOT going to the Main Dealer... ( I doubt he would have them anyway!)

I just want to get my GTA ready for an MOT, once I have it registered back in the UK. Give it a service, change all the usual stuff... Dizzy cap / arm plugs filters etc etc etc.. I know these are going to cost X amount more than a normal car, but **** sake , I cannot find anything..

So come on, where are you guys staching all the normal service spares??
Someone told me that the Renault Safran has the same dizzy cap??
Any help would be appreciated, I feel like I have taken on way more than I expected.. and I have not even started to find someone to do the body work and respray yet! but at least I have the electrics ALL working.... even the Speedo........ for now!!

Thanks..

I take it that was a hint!! Once I sort the rest of it, and get it road legal, I will give you a call, so you can look over it and quote me...

But first I need to find these handbrake cables... I have taken the old ones off and if I can find a company that make cables, I will see if they can copy them.
I can see this is going to be a labour of love...

Hi

Speedy Cables in Wales could be your best bet, a few of us have used them for Venturi handbrake cables. This year mine were between £90 & £100 for the pair delivered. Send your old ones and they will make you copies.

Or simon auto will have them on the shelf- look in the links page on the main website home page. Excellent service and English spoken.

You may need to order right for left and vice versa as the handbrake lever is on the right side of the seat making the cables handed.

If your car is a turbo then the engine and gearbox are very similar to a Renault 25 turbo, so start there. Dizzy cap and rotor are common to ren 25 turbo, Safrane and even BMW 12 cylinder engines so can be found easily (but not that cheaply) on ebay. If its an atmo you need to get a Volvo or earlier Renault cap (can someone give a list??)

Brakes are from other cars (Citroen BX??) discs are common to Espace practically, but a GTA owner should help you out there.
Cheers

Thanks again...
Yes mine is a Turbo, and I need both cables,so ordering both will not matter about the handed thing, but thanks for the advise. I will call and see...

it seams that all the current stock of oem renault cables have been manufactured about an inch too short. if you fit them into the calipers and find you can't get the hand brake back together just shout for help .
