Wheels & Tyres - GTA

Postby Mark Corby » Thu Oct 13, 2011 5:32 pm

Hi All

Finally have E 29 MTP up and running after the radiator gave up the ghost in June.... travel, travel, travel.....

Anyway, the rear tyres wee just legal for the MOT but are on their way out. They're 265 40ZR17 on 10" Azev rims and I can't find tyres that fit anywhere (the current ones are Falkens but I can't track any down... yet).

So, couple of questions....
a) anyone know where I might lay hands on some new ones?
b) if not, anyone got any thoughts on the best wheel/tyre combinations for a turbo GTA. It's currently on 215 40ZR17 at the front. 7" Azev rims.

Going to start fettlling the beast for Le Mans Classic next year so I may as well start with the obvious stuff!!

Cheers

Mark

Just buy 255/40/17's as these were standard fit for the 10 x 17 rears.

I think you can go upto 285 series in the width from memory but cost and availability becomes harder as you have found out...

Ta for that - I did wonder, and availability is a lot better!!!! Cheers!

And...

Here's one for any aesthetes.....

The Azevs are getting a bit crackly and chiped so I'm going to get them refurbed, blasted and re-enamelled fairly soon (now it looks like I can get tyres for'em!) and I fancy a different colour....

The car is silver and I fancy something moderately absurd sky blue, orange, lime green!!!) but I'm prepared to be put off if needs be and stick with silver!

So, go on then - shoot me down! Please!!![/b]

Stick with Silver....

From memory I think your car was painted fairly recently to a high standard, be a shame/waste to spray it again?

As for wheels I do think they may look better Tungsten Grey with the Silver Bodywork? It would give the car a new look that I guess your after?

Sorry, me being too vague - I love the car in silver and wouldn't touch it, shows off the shape fantasically well. It's the wheels I fancy doing something with as they need refurbing anyway. Yes Tungsten would be nice - I had wondered about black (as opposed to the ice cream shades!) but thought it was a bit too stark!

Thanks for that - I may now have been persuaded back to normality!

And 255 to 285 do seem to fit 10" rims so my problem is solved there!
Many thanks!

Hi Mark

I think I have to agree with Martin on this one, a nice tungsten or even gunmetal for the wheels, this should help the silver body look cool against the wheels and vice versa. 8) 8) 8)

I'll be doing something similar with the AZEVS on my silver car over the winter. I reckon tungsten, or gloss black or maybe matt black. Or why not do 1 side 1 colour and 1 side another - freak people out  . Which AZEV style?
