610 Thermostat

Postby JohnC » Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:20 pm

I wonder if anyone can help me please. I ordered a spare stat for my Alp with the part No. 60 00 007 566, which is for a 88` no jiggle valve type. What came down was a 86` stat with jiggle valve. Now I know that the 610 has a 86` with a jiggle valve stat, so I am wondering if this one will do for a 610. Now the main body is the same size, but going on the pic in the parts list maybe the lower disc is smaller for the 610.
Question:-
Has anyone got a spare 610 stat they could measure the diameter of the lower disc for me, this one measures 4.75cm.
Due to its lower temperature I will not use it in my Alp as the auto choke relies on water temperature to shut it off, and I would rather have the correct one which I have since got from Simon Autos. But if this one is the same as the 610 one, I will happily let it go to a 610 owner who might want one.... for a small fee.

Yes Lee, that's my thinking, but it would be nice to get it confirmed.... Thanks anyway. :D

Is the 610 pump different then? As i dont understand why you would want a smaller disk, infact i would have thought a smaller disk would be detrimental as as far as i know the disk only controls flow. It shuts off flow to the whole cooling systém and only circulates water around the engine once the stát comes úp to temp it opens allowing the complete cooling systém to flow. This means the engine comes úp to normál running temp as quickly as possible; why would you not want this?

Why would the hole in the pump be smaller for a 610 than a,3ltr atmo or 2.5 turbo?

As john says do not purchase a thermostat made for any prv as the disk is too small allowing the whole of of the cooling systém to circulate and it takes and eternity for the engine to warm up. If you can afford to run a 3ltr lump on choke for 6 miles before it warms up at todays prices your a richer man than I. On an atmo it“ll do a gallon before the stát opens if the incorrect speced type is fitted; the renault items sound expensive at £35 but youll save more than that in fuel so its a definate false economy.
Interested to know of any differences in the 610 pump apart from the over inflated 610 price:lol:  .

Does the 610 lump run any much hotter thanks the 2.5 turbo lump if so is the pump spec better than the other engine variants, hence the smaller disc allowing more flow; is there a smaller hole in the pump housing to increases speed of flow?

It has a completely different setup .The stat housing is part of the pipework that feeds the heads ,not on top of the pump as GTA .
