A310 Mirrors

Postby exocet » Tue Nov 15, 2011 9:51 am

Does anyone know if the exterior mirrors on the later A310's ('82 onwards) were used on any other vehicles?

The one on the driver's side is a bit loose, so over bumpier roads it tends to sag a little :( I couldn't immediately see any way of tightening it up.

If it's similar design to GTA, then you'll find taking off the interior trip reveals a large nut with slots cut into it.
Gentle tapping of this will bring the assembly closer to the quarter window and tighten things up.
Tap too hard or tighten too much and you'll crack the quarter window.

....meant to add, there is probably a special tool for this, but I havent got one - hence the tapping technique.

What I've found works quite well (on a GTA) for tightening these, although you're actually only gripping two of the slots, are the stereo removal tools like these: Image

Bit improvised but you get the point. They were in the toolbox at the time and although I'm sure there's a definitive spanner for 'em these work as well as anything.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Nope, not those - they're similar to the earlier A310's.

No slotted nuts to squeeze to keep the mirror up either.... :P

Seems Simon Auto may have some, but I was hoping there may be something that was sold here in NZ that used the same mirrors.

They look like Vitaloni Baby Tornado’s. I used to have those on my 1980’s Alfa Romeo Guilleta. Try this link for size. :D :D :D

None too cheap, but then they are electrically adjustable. Not that that is always a good thing. Seems Simon Auto also has them, slightly cheaper.

Thanks all, the Alfa info may be worth me checking into. Now I'll have a mirror fetish for a few days...
