R25t item is 7700267682 appox £32.
I have an idea about possible alternative items but I will have to do some spec digging regards the resistance values for a given temp.
The only thing I don't know is the actual thread size so could some one let me know??

ps: engine numbers also.

it might be still on the system in the uk but its finished in france.... no more to be supplied..... so usual things will happen..... order it and nothing will arrive, possibly find a vdo unit that will physically fit and then adjust the voltage to the required with a resistor..... john c is the man for this one.....

try these guys..... they also do adapters so you may be able to find a sensor in a different size and use an adapter to make it fit......

Maybe also have a look here -

If you can get the resistance range (or emulate the original with some resistors) to match all you need is an M18 adaptor....

We may have fluked onto a replacement part but it is in the USA!! Good old Nascar!!

Gavin found it more by luck than judgement he says and it is in his opinion the one as it looks the same, it is for a GTA, but does not have the part number, but then neither does anything else on that site refer to manufacturers part numbers. It is relatively cheap so I will order one and if it is successful I will ensure a link is posted to the part/website for future use or reference.

Thanks for all of your efforts thus far, top men you all are. :D :D

Hi Guys

Great news, Le Mans 03 she has been repaired.

We found a sensor from a four cylinder R25 that has the same resistance readings, is of the PTC, (positive thermal co-efficient), type and had a thread size of 18mm x 1.5 thread pitch. See the link below. Beware that although the price is stated as £15.18, I also had to pay a small order charge and postage taking my overall outlay to £31.30. Renault Part number for this sensor is 7700730022

http://www.renaultcarpartsuk.co.uk/p252 ... _info.html

When it arrived it was clearly the wrong part sent as the thread size on the sensor received was 12mm x 1.5, so I contacted the supplier and complained about their error. They were most apologetic and took my number promising to call me back within a few days after they had spoken to Hella the sensor manufacturer. Unfortunately I had called on the 23/12/11 so the company and Hella closed down for Christmas and I did not hear back until after the New Year. The reply when it came was it is the correct sensor for the part number but Hella have provided the wrong description and apologise.

I now had to find a reducing bush in 18mm x 1.5, male x 12mm x 1.5, female. I couldn’t find any on the internet that I felt confident would be what I needed or that the company would sell just one unit. In the end I bought a Lambda Probe Blanking Plug as they are 18mm x 1.5 for £4.75 and took it in to work to get it drilled and tapped to make it into the reducer. Once it had been drilled and tapped the sensor was screwed into the reducer and thankfully the tip of the sensor just poked out far enough to be in the water flow when it was all installed into the thermostat housing. The new sensor has a different connection for the wires so this needed to be adapted to suit.

I received the phone call today from Gavin at Autocraft to say the sensor has been installed, the engine set up and it is all running very smoothly, therefore I will collect it tomorrow after work. 8) 8) 8)

Some photos to help illustrate my ramblings.

Hi Andy

You were right the first sensor that came from the States was no good. It was from the car you suggested and was an odd size for a Renault 3/8"

Nice bit of thinking and work there Paul, but I think that I would have had the nut section of the adaptor turned off up to the flange which would have let the sensor protude further into the thermostat housing, but if it works... so much for my pickey point.

Hi John

That would have been a good idea, I see where you are coming from  but I didn't even consider that
