Thanks thats great!

I take it thats the early one? Just judging by the panel fonts. Haven't got my later one in front of me. If you have one could you send me a pic of the later front too?

It looks like I might have a spare early one to convert too but lets see how we get on with the later type one first!

Jon.... I am getting a bit confused now..(quite easy for me to do that these days  )
The one that you have posted pics of being worked on by your mate is the early one.... the same as in my magazine pic,.... your quote implies that that you are working on the later type one first. :?
However, the pic below is of my later type.

Just what I was about to say.

Tell all!!

Thanks for the pic John. Not having the unit in front of me i'm getting confused too but I have passed on both photo's....

Basically I have one that's with Keith being worked on and one thats fitted to the car already. I suspect that having looked at the pics again on my car and comparing to yours mine is the earlier type

Sorry for the confusion!!

Cheers

Jon

Yes Lee, well spotted.... I fitted it many years ago to stop tempting me to go too fast with "you know what on the back" (hopefully the newbies on the forum don`t know about that.   ... got too much stick about that from BIG_MVS if you remember. )
Don`t use it much these days, but check it out once in a while... works well with a vacuum throttle control unit mounted behind the spare wheel and the electronic unit where the ECU is fitted in the turbo`s.

Who made the system? Was it easy to fit?

Ahhhhhhhh!!!! Don`t mention that again Jon.
The system was made by "Liteon", and if I remember rightly, was supplied by a firm calling themselves "Concept", and is an "AP150 Cruise Control", I still have the Owners manual and installation instructions..... very easy to fit and set up, but that was some 20 years ago, so whether they still exist or not, I don`t know.

PS. Would you believe it,... they are still available having Googled it but with steering wheel stalk control, when I got mine, I had the option of stalk or the one that I fitted..... did not like the stalk one, felt it would clutter up the wheel area, so opted for the flush panel fit one.

Almost there with this but need to ask can you confirm the stereo button has to be "in" to receive in stereo with the adjacent light lit?

Thanks

I would say yes, I have not had experience with the older radio, but other radios of that era had similar buttons to switch from the standard mono to stereo.
In the early days of stereo, radios required a stronger signal for stereo reception, however if the radio was left switched to stereo when receiving a mono transmission, there was very often a background hiss caused by the lower strength of the mono signal... especially on car radios.

If anyone is going down this road of fitting a 3.5mm jack socket to the OE radio, it should be able to be inserted in the feed from the tape deck to the main audio amplifier...... if you can find the Lt & Rt channel feeds.
If you do find them, I suggest using a 3.5mm Break Jack Socket, so if wired correctly will break the connections from the tape deck when the IPod`s plug is inserted allowing the IPod to play, but when the plug is removed, the tape will be automatically reconnected thus allowing the tape to be used.......... Two for the price of one.
Link below shows the socket required from Maplins.

Hi Guys

Sorry to sort of hi-jack this thread but I am a little unsure about the OE radio/cassette installations for the Le Mans. I recently saw Miles Thomas’ Le Mans and he has what I believe you call the later version in fact what you have shown in this thread. However, mine though it has been faffed about with cannot have had this type of sound unit as it has an Alpine Le Mans plaque mounted on the centre console next to the clock. It seems to me that my Le Mans is an older model than Miles’ car as mine was on a “H” plate and his a “J” plate, did the earlier car simply have a radio/cassette unit, an oddments box/cubby hole, the plaque and clock on the centre console? I ask this because mine seems as the photo shows to have had two distinct cut outs in the console?

Regards

@JohnC picked up that (http://www.maplin.co.uk/pcb-mounted-3.5 ... ocket-1196) exact socket yesterday, was thinking the same (isolate between tape/iPod)

@jon_viola look forward to seeing where to wire into... cannot make any sense of what's on the desk in front of me, nor your original diagram on page 1 of this thread :?
