MOT tests in 2012

Postby coopercobra » Wed Dec 21, 2011 5:27 pm

The AA have listed the 2012 MOT changes -

While most of the changes are aimed at newer vehicles, some parts may still catch out the Alpine owner, particularly the speedometer section

Enjoy! :D

The catalytic converter missing check will be a pain for quite a few le mans and a610 owners too. It seems it's not good enough to pass the emissions test without them ( which is possible on a well running car) it needs the cat.
Apart from that electronics on new cars will be a money making opportunity for garages and they have watered down the HID proposals that originally required "E" marking too, but auto levelling and headlight washers will be impossible for many people anyway.
I guess it all comes down to how your local garage interprets the rules.
Fun times from April then.

I thought most of what has been listed was in the present MOT anyway?

I always thought a missing CAT was a failure in the past? Mines off so we will have to see if it gets picked up in March...When I had the exhaust done the company put a by pass pipe on so it shouldn't be too much of a problem to refit if required.

Yes if you have the cat, fitting it for an MOT is easy, but not as easy as not having to.

Feels a bit like retrospective changes to me.....but the good news is apparently they are considering making all pre 61 vehicles MOT exempt... because classic car owners (who will own them) usually maintain them well.

Now how about MOT exemptions with car club ownership! That should boost the membership. I feel a new petition coming on.....
