Radio part required

Postby JohnC » Thu Feb 09, 2012 7:37 pm

Has anyone got a working Clock part of the OE late Cube Radio that they would like to sell. Mine has died and after extensive efforts I have not been able to repair it due to not having a service manual for the beast. Even if there is one around but not to be purchased, I would be interested in borrowing it in order to take some readings off it to point me in the right direction.
Pic below shows the complete set up, but it is only the top section that I require.
Thanks.

John

I think I've got an early one you can have. Not sure how compatible the two are but I imagine they use the same connections / loom.

Hi Darren,

Unfortunately the early and late components of the Radio are not compatible. Even the Radio section is different, and there are more controls on the clock section which are built into the Radio section of the later one. Notwithstanding that, if your "early one" looks like my clock unit, then it might just work. Let me know if it is, and thanks for your reply. :D

Ah sorry, that'll be a no then. Definitely more buttons plus the 'roller bit' for tuning the radio.

Hi "The Saint",

Would you be prepared to send me your Clock unit and I will be able to check if it does in fact work on my radio test jig..... if it does, either I will take the readings that I want or purchase the unit off you..... which ever you prefer. Of course I will pay all P&P costs. Thanks for replying.

Hey,
Strange you never got my PM??? I wonder if that is why Mr Dell never answers my messages??? I will have to look into that!

I did try to send another PM, but it seems not to function??? but I get yours...

Anyway, this radio, I removed it as when I purchased the car, as the battery had been disconnected, and the code was lost... So unable to know if it worked?? I will post the top part to you once you send me your address, and we can see how things go from there!

I did wonder what had happened, but thanks for the reply. As I only want the Clock section, it should not matter about the missing code. I will PM you my address.
Cheers. :D

Just an update.... the clock unit arrived from "The Saint" yesterday less than 12 hrs from posting.... wonders will never cease with Royal Mail!!! I duly connected it to the Radio and it burst into life albeit with intermittentcy which was caused by the bain of Alp electronics...... Lead throughs, and a couple of sections of the LCD display dead, a couple of hours later all was well.
"The Saint" has very kindly donated the unit to me, for which I am very grateful. So from me publicly, a big thank you to The Saint..... I am very pleased to be able to keep my Alp as original as possible. :D :D :D
I still intend to try and repair my faulty clock, and with the help of a known good one... there is hope.

Thank you for those kind words, I feel that this club is all about helping each other, and keeping these wonderful cars on the road. I joined this club in the pursuit of gaining help, keeping my car on the road, and making friends along the way. I am not here to try and rip off people, and make personal gains, but to enjoy helping and seeing more of these rare cars. We are all here because of our love for them. If I can help anyone in anyway, then I have fulfilled my part to the founders of this club, and preservation of these cars. Seeing an Alpine out on the road, never mind owning and driving one, is a pleasure that no money can buy.
I thank you guys for being there and helping me.
