Postby R1313 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:39 pm

I clean my Alpine from electrical equipment that is not original, I find lots of extra cables and "thieves". But this box on the photo, what could it be?? Does anyone know?

It is a "Tank Sender Unit" and is part of the fuel guage circuit on the post 1989 Alps.

There is some cross-over .
Tanks ,senders can be from both styles .You will either have the 'black box' or nothing at all apart from tank sender , wires going straight into loom and dials .I have a car here with later style tank but no box .

Strange, wonder why they have mounted this "box" if they not needs? If the box coming from the factory in Dieppe, I want to keep it, if not, it´s only crap and goes to recycling. Does anyone know?

This TSU in your pic is not mounted in the spot that the 1990 Alps have them fitted which suggests, as Clee says, it was fitted just before it became a permanent change. I have come across another Alp with it in your Alps position... again it was of the same period of time as yours.
The TSU was fitted in Dieppe as was the later type Tank sensor, so it needs to be kept.
