Seen at the National Kit Car Show Stoneleigh 06/05/12

Postby PaulC1959 » Sun May 06, 2012 8:22 pm

I saw this Atmo engined car today at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show. It was said to be a Russian Super Car capable of 150 MPH, but alas I can't remember what it is called, but I do seem to remember something in the motoring press a good few years back. Any ideas?

It was originally produced for some sort of advert (Norwich Union) without engine etc (basically a shell) and subsequently bought by Brian Thompson who more or less scratch built the rest of the car. It is the subject of his book 'How to Build Your Own Supercar' published by Veloce books (trying to find my copy just now!). The book is great for glass fibre moulding techniques, vac forming etc etc.

The car itself was a 'mythical' car - certainly not a Russian produced supercar! I will post a little more info once I find the book.......

Cool. 8) I look forward to more details, funny how the mind plays tricks. Was the jist of the advert that it was a Russian Supecar?

Well found big fella!

A better quality version of the advert exists on this link.

I found a gallery of the Mirov 2 on this kit car site.

I found a preview of the book mentioned by Paul T, this guy spent 9 years creating this car from a shell, fair play to him.

I guess Norwich Union had their crystal ball out back then, they only got the name wrong is all, Marussia!

Mind you Marussia want to be very careful going into F1 to spread the brand, Venturi did that in the 1990’s with the Venturi Larrousse – Lamborghini. That brought on one of the bankruptcies and a relationship with a high end criminal who was killed in a police shoot out. Below is from Wikipedia

“In September 1992 Venturi sold its shareholding to a group called Comstock, headed by German Rainer Walldorf. Walldorf, real name Klaus Walz, turned out to be wanted by the police of several European countries in connection with four murders. After escaping from a raid on his house in France through judicious use of a hand grenade, he was killed during a nine-hour gun battle with police in a German hotel”
