So if someone is unfortunate enough to have their prized alp or lotus rear ended what would the insurance company do about repairing if these lights are simply unavailable?

quite a few pages to go through and basically they all agree that there is a need to remanufacture the rear lights. they were trying to source the original moulds used by scintex which eventually became automotive lighting but after a long research they found out that the moulds were melted so unusable. Same applies to the lotus elan... so dead end this way.

another avenue was to get simon auto to remanufacture but moulds too expensive and his supplier does not have the capacity to manufacture this size moulds so exploring other suppliers.

in parallel some other guys are trying various automotive moulding companies, universities etc... with more or less luck

in summary still not there but one thing seems to be common, they dont have enough quantities and they are wondering how to gather the founds for the moulds if it goes anywhere...

one thing though they are looking at remanufacturing the external cover only (see photos page 5) not the part holding the bulbs... estimated cost for a pair was around 250 euros...

towards the end they are getting angry at Renault for not supporting old models etc etc...

Anybody would be interested? maybe we could get people potentially interested to buy a pair (if this goes forward) to put their name forward on this thread and I or Andy could get in touch with them to support this action?

Thanks for the translation! Never noticed that the covers are that tinted! Well I would be up for a new pair of covers if this ever comes off. I guess the other option is an Elan scrappage scheme to recover more spares

It all looks very scary ...but ...if we could get 100 owners to stump up 250 quid for a pair then I would be able to get them reverse engineered .....
I'm sure we've all wasted far more than that on purchases that were useless whims ...................

Hmmmm, that idea has legs. GTA only I guess, not A610 units as well?

i think that only one side of a610 lights is available so something will have to be done about it too.

i understand that the a610 lights are different construction though? in the FAR thread they were contemplating remanufacturing the a610 ones as they are simplier to make and maybe make a variant without the additional lines to make the replacement for the gta...

One or the other or new design .
What it needs is a firm Club/official commitment to convince the Euro lads that it has legs and get them to help .I reckon about half a dozen UK takers ..........
Trouble is , that will just solve the outer cosmetic fails ...We will still have lots with broken mounting bosses

Europe wide

Postby Tony Smith » Thu May 17, 2012 8:40 am

Maybe we should look and forming a european/worldwide forum to get enough bodies to finance stuff like this - always going to be difficult to get enough people just from the uk with such a small owner base. Surely the big French and German clubs have a handle on this sort of stuff all ready
