Do you want to sell that fan? I'm sure you don't want it cluttering up your lovely garage now do you?

More diet news!!! Having been continually shedding bits of Alpine for months now (brackets, bolts padding.....anything that isnt essential apart form the stereo!!!) Ive been back to the weigh bridge with 2 gallons in the tank. 1055kgs! Not too bad.....the machine kept flicking between 1050 and 1060 (it only measures to the nearest 10).
Should be nippier than ever at Barbon on Satruday.

It would be nice to have a rough list of all the bits youve got rid of...Thats a good weight, and I think youve still got your door panels, centre console, rear trim etc...??

just out of interest, how much does your stereo weigh and could you not just pull it out on race day? Or do you drive like the Stig, with moody music.

Ok, gone are the airbox and everything associated with it. I have a length of flyweight hose to a foam sock, the spare wheel, all turbo and engine heat shields except the one on the rear bulkhead, the turbo fan and all brackets (it didnt blow enough air to the intercooler to make up for the weight), standard exhaust replaced with ART straight through, engine cover and hinges, all the metal in the rear seats and all rear belts, all padding and bolts behind the rear seat and most of the padding from un der the centre console, rear speakers, both front belts replaced with harnesses (a bit lighter!), the metal brackets that hold the corners of the front bumper, standard battery replaced with teeny weeny red top race battery and a few other odds and sods of clips and brackets from the engine bay. If you are used to looking at a standard GTA engine bay mine looks very uncluttered.....possibly naked :D
Ive kept the stereo for the odd trip to work and for psych up music when I'm queueing for the start of events. (Kings of Leon being the best in my opinion!). I'd imagine the stereo and speakers probably weigh 3-4kgs....but I love my music!!!

Under a ton

Postby Tony Smith » Thu Jun 16, 2005 3:57 pm

My target for a completely stripped car of under a ton looks entirely feasible then, although the twin turbos and custom intercooler set up is probably going to add 20-30 kilos but the race seats and complete lack of anything non essential in the interior and perspex rear screen and side windows should easily make up for that!

Definitely.....the glass alone will weigh most of the 50kgs, the interior trim has got to be good for another 20.

Id like some of that! Is it good quality (I mean it in the best way, ie when painted looks factory finish), or adequate for racing and the application it was designed for?

BTW, do you know how much the original bumper weighs?

not painted yet david, but i think it will look 'factory' when painted, i am fussy.

not sure what the original one weighed, but this feels half the weight!

will keep you informed.......
