Locked out

Postby mogster242 » Thu May 24, 2012 12:44 pm

Hi all,

after a few faultless months :D , yesterday my gta turbo decided to not to unlock  :x   it was a hot day (not sure that has anything to do with it but doesnt happen very often) but worth mentioning.
I tried unlocking using the phob and the key manually, nothing. unplugged the battery (i luckily didnt lock the front bonnet) and plugged it back on several times, nothing!

apart from the embarrassing situation and making all my colleagues laugh i eventually had to catch a lift as i didnt have the time to look into it in more details there and then. On my return to work this morning it unlocked as normal using the phob

It only happened once before on the weekend Clee and I changed the clutch. after my long journey up north the same thing happened. We connected a spare battery to the starter motor but it didnt make any difference at first but did unlock with persistance  we then checked the voltage from the battery which was fine so its not a flat battery.

this is a bit odd and not very practical... i dont really want to leave my car unlocked by fear of not being able to get back in when i use it...

has anybody any ideas why this might happen and what to do to prevent this happening again?

thanks
Cedric

Usually if you can't unlock it using the key meand the mechanism is stiff and needs plenty of lube. Have you taken the mech out of the B post to lube it all up with wd40?

The fob issue says faulty electrics I guess, bad earth somewhere?

A couple of things to check:-

Clean the batteries and their fob connections, but whilst the fob is open unscrew the circuit board and with a finger on the IR LED, see if it will rock slightly while watching the underside of the board where the two pins of the led are soldered, they may just move ever so slightly, if so, resolder....... this is a commom fault with remote controls... even TV/Sky ones.
Give it a try.

Took the fob apart and all the joints are perfect, the IR LED does not move at all... batteries are fine too. so i guess that's not that... forgot to say, when i was locked out and was operating the fob the internal light would come on....

on the early gtas power is needed to be able to operate the manual key. so if your battery is flat you cant get in...

the mechanical mechanism is not sticky although probably could do with a bit more lube :D

i would say it's defo electrical but where???????????

Ahh!..... that makes a difference...... it suggests to me that the fob.. remote receiver... and associated earth M10 (see pic below) are all OK. That leaves the the "Door Locking Timer Relay" (264). or its socket.... or connector R38.
Pics below show circuit if that is helpful to you, and the second pic shows positions of Relay 264..... and connector R38. Note that the pic is for LHD so connector R38 will be on the other side...... but I am pretty sure the relay positions are as pic 2.
