Trying to Understand the Symbols on the GTA/A610 Parts “Book

Hi guys as there is no “legend” on the PDF of the parts book I am trying to get my head around what some of the symbols mean, some I understand, such as the letters of the alphabet directing me down to the bottom of the page to view the additional information, and I understand the D500, D501, D502 & D503 designation but after that I am not so sure when lots of symbols are show together.

I understand from previous parts identification in the gas industry and with other car manufacturers that a date or chassis number and < > symbols are in relation to model or part changes like the following:
< 1990 = before 1990
1990 > = after 1990

Originally in the book I thought the pointing hand has this function but I have now noticed arrows pointing left and right What do these mean?

Next I have seen a crucifix originally when I first saw this I thought it was for Left and Right hand side.

Next came a symbol that looks like a go-kart from above, ????

When they are all put together in this fashion I am completely lost, what would this one mean?

I also found what looks like an Afro-Comb and this seems to be left or right hand, again I am not sure as this was found in the door mirror section, but I also think it may mean it has a wiring harness?

I have reproduced the above below along with a few others; any help in creating my own legend for using this book would be most gratefully received.

I know the finger pointing means Left Hand drive or Right hand drive (come on Paul I though you were a teacher! ).

The cross means it's no longer available in other wise dead.

MOD numbers mean that they are for a model with that year onwards and after the stated chassis number.

Not sure about the rest, Turbodog is your man here (the Guru).

Thank you. Yes a teacher of Plumbing and Gas not Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, or Renault parts catalogues, but I do know another sign with a finger!!

The cross means it's no longer available in other wise dead.

More strictly it means superceeded by the number below it. The only reason for printing it at all is if someone's looking up a number - then they'll find a cricifix next to it and the replacement below it.

Too much time on your hands there Paul, I bet that post took an age to compose. Good work though.

This should be second nature for me as I started out on these old Renault part symbols and they do vary from year the fiche is printed so here it goes,

Pointing hands = L/H/D or R/H/D
Arrow pointing left = UPTO
Crucfix = Parts supplied until exhausted then use below
"Go kart" = Vehicle This is normally followed by the Fab number then arrow showing upto.
MOD = model year

The first line of your sample would then mean this,

Part number "e" is for D500 L/H/D vehicle with a 1990 model year up to this fab number.

The Afro combe = Part to be painted

[21] & [22] are colour codes for various trims or fixings

The triangle with the arrow pointing outward followed by the two numbers means except country codes........

Arrows pointing in to the triangle means "for"

I am on Whitsun holiday, so have a bit of time on my hands and as the weather is so sh1te I was just checking out bits and bobs for the Le Mans for when I need them during the slow refurbishment.

To everybody else thank you for your input I will make up a word document from your comments for my future use.

As far as I am aware, it is the Renault PR 2000 that gives the 'legend' to all Renault parts manual hieroglyphics (including oval plate interpretation) - this is a slim book, about half A5 width. Most Renault dealers should have one - somewhere - as do I but have temporarily misplaced it! Maybe Stephen has one with the Club literature? I would try your dealer though - they should at least let you have a look at it.

Yes the key is the PR2000 book & it's only the long supporting dealers with long serving staff that may still have a copy & unless it has been reprinted by Renault and I've been missed of the mailing list (my last copy is dated 1997) they are no longer avaliable, but I am going to ask the parts area rep on Monday to find out.
If someone has a copy of PR500-800 or the book of all the fiche slides in one print it will also have the legend of symbols.

The "FAB" number is on the Oval plate not the chassis plate (VF1) and will generaly start with the letter K for vehicles built in Dieppe
