Harpenden is pretty much equidistant between Luton and St. Albans on the old A6 now the A1081. You usually won’t get onto the common proper unless you have been pre-approved by the organisers and sent a ticket, but often car parking is on a green next to the common and this looks like an extension of the green.

I have just checked the website and parking has been reduced due to the council not being able to cut the hay off the field due to damp conditions.

Car Parking Tip
Apparently after 6.00pm parking is available in the Rothamsted Research’s car park which is pretty much opposite the cricket pitch. This will be handy for those coming from Junction 9 via Redbourn as it will be on your left before the Common and hopefully before the worst of the traffic queue. If coming from Junction 10 you will have to drive past the Common to access this car park.

From south
M1 Northbound to Junction 9, turn right towards Redbourn on the A5/A5183. At Redbourn turn left at the first roundabout onto B487, follow this all the way into Harpenden and at the T junction turn left. The Common will be on your right just after the Cricket Club. The Rozzers will direct you down to the roundabout to come back up to the entrance as they will not permit you to turn right across the queuing/oncoming traffic.

From the North
M1 Southbound Junction 10, follow the slip road down to the roundabout on the old A6/A1081 and turn right following the signs to Harpenden. Simply follow this road into Harpenden and drive through the High street, (towards St. Albans), the Common will appear on your left as you leave town.

Hope this helps.

Tony, I hope you are back on your feet after falling out of the pub garden into the road, pretending to rescue an MG in distress

It was a busy event, and turned out to be a STRICKLY ticket holders only situation to get onto the common.

A red A110, maroon R6, Black R5 and a Caravelle were evident. I don't have any pics, but there should be plenty on the net and other forums.

Really, he dived like a pro premier player and collapsed in a heap.
This did not deter him from enjoying the show and limping around.
But by the end he was in a serious amount of pain and he had a big swelling too. It did not look good for him, but luckily he had a driver for the day.
