Yeh, I've run a 2.5 20v Safrane for over 10 years now and its a bloody good car. Not missed a beat in that time although there is just a little bit of rust coming through on the rear arches now (job for Andy001 so I can keep it minty?). Runs on LPG too, just filled her up at 62.9p/litre. I payed £3k for it with 30k miles with FSH which was a steal for £26k of car

I've just bought this as my next project. Lots to do but fundamentally a nice car and just passed it's MOT with no major issues after lt doing just 300 miles in the past 3 years. Genuine 73k miles with full Lotus dealer/specialist history. Not so mellow yellow!

David hasn't really mentioned the Esprit to me lol. I do love the look of the Esprit, just wish I fitted into them. Still, the yellow car was a nice buy but I do fancy a V8 at some point.

No chance of leaving Alpine ownership though. It's like a first love thing for me. Just can't see me ever selling the 610. But you all know how much I love the car!

Can't wait to see the Esprit below finished though....Sport 300 engine which was specced from the factory with a lot of the race car bits and running 420bhp. Bonnet, front and rear bumpers made from carbon fibre, stripped out interior and should weigh around 950kg. Going to be fun 8)

The Ad has gone now, but just to put my pennys worth in.
Safrane 2.5 petrol cars have a decent following on the continent.
The engine has a fair bit of go and is very reliable.
The car is very solidly built (doors close with an 'exec car' clunk).
The only issues are that they prefer the manual box (which we didn't get here!!!!!) and the electrics can be 'iffy'.

The Phase 2 (Like MYs above) has a better autobox than the Phase 1.

Get a good one and you'll be amazed how you can get so much car for so little money.

Mine is a Phase 1 - 2.5 dT.
It is the dodgy autobox (which I haven't had any problems with yet) and an oldstyle turbo diesel (which clatters when you stand next to it but is pretty silent in the car windows up).
Very comfortable, quite economical great mileage eater.
I drove to Eindhoven (& back) at the weekend which is did between 70 & 85mph pretty much all the way in total comfort.
Alpine A110, Renault Safrane 2.5dt, Hudson Kindred Spirit (Renault powered), transAlp (Honda) and Ducati Multistrada
