Ok, I have up for sale two T3 performance turbos now surplus to requirements. I’m building some larger hybrids to suit a change in project requirements; hence these are up for grabs:

The first is a T3 standard fitment: - T3 turbine shaft fitted with the largest T3 compressor wheel in the series i.e. Super 60 trim. This configuration is a stage I upgrade on a Cossie, to give comparison. This turbo powered CLee to his last 13.2 (edit -corrected) ¼ mile at Santa Pod. The turbo was spooling really strong, but Lee’s clutch was giving out and so had to let off the gas in 3rd and 4th. So this is a really capable unit. Suggest this would make a nice unit on a GTA. Support the engine to the rev limit, and 16 –18psi max without generating heat. SOLD

The second is a T34 i.e. T3 hybrid with a T4 compressor stage. This is a fast spool hybrid capable of serious power, and would suggest probably better suited as a significant upgrade to an A610 3ltr motor. It has a Super 46 trim compressor, capable of sustaining 22 psi up to 6500 rpm, and would expect figures well over 300-wheel hp on a 610 with the right fuelling.

I also have a gas flow ported exhaust plenum unit to suit either turbo.

First unit looks like it's going to a new home, so for those still thinking about it, sorry chaps :wink:

I have now been clearing more of my parts bins, and can add a standard GTA OE turbo core (oil and water cooled, for older fitment without the later water circuit you do not need to connect the water circuit), complete with compressor housing - just swap your old sluggish or blown smokey turbo core leaving the exhaust scroll in place. This is on a fresh rebuild by Turbo Active (service tag on the turbo for inspection), and only seen about 1k miles. So this is a core turbo unit, rebuilt, balanced, turbine and fresh compressor wheel, and compressor housing. You fit into your turbine housing (leave fitted to the car), and your waste gate actuator.

So if you are looking for an economical OE spec replacement, or spare to ensure you keep your motor on the road just let me know.

Right I'm sorting stuff out, and some good stuff to grab for those looking for upgrades.

Here's a little used genuine T3 60 trim Turbonetics turbo water cooled core and polished ported Turbonetics cover. This is one I have had from new, ordered from the factory, and in good condition and plenty of life left. I have had 280hp from this unit, but I would run it 250-270hp. It has fast spool, and make a nice upgrade with good cams for fast road / hill climb applications. You won't be disappointed, and no guess work to the spec. Make me an offer, and it could be yours :-)

Hi Paul,

Essentially what you see, but reassembled, I only split for the photo. However, you would need a turbine housing and waste-gate assembly. You can get these, or I could supply depending, but really depends what you already have, and hence choices you can make. The waste gate housing from your existing OE turbo will fit provided you use the 5 stud T3 turbine housing selection, and will then just bolt right up. You may need to play with the actuator bracket if you use your old one, but simple enough if you are happy with some metal fabrication, if not this can be done. You can achieve much better actuator control than the garden shed bleed valves, happy to advise if you wanted and you could then decide.

Reason I haven’t included it right off (exhaust housing), is the A/R housings are different size, and many people like to sort this stuff themselves, depends on personal preferences in doing the build if interested or not. If you are all OE at present – turbo, and setup such as injectors, ecu (Renix) etc, then you have some decisions for best configuration anyway.

If you intend for fast road with lots of punch and easy driveability, then I would suggest a 0.48 A/R T3 turbine housing as a good compromise – fast spool and good top end. If your eye was more on track / hill climb and wanted more top end power / potential, then you would need to go larger, such as a 0.68 A/R T3 housing.

Staying stock heads and cams, then I would marry the core to a 0.48 turbine housing, and to obtain the best potential, change to 240cc injectors and an upgraded Renix ecu if you don’t have aftermarket option, both work well and fully tested and known. I would suggest that this would give you the best bang per buck, and certainly a very punchy car that is a lot of fun on the road.

I have a totally stock original setup at the moment, so have the waste gate etc; not sure how good/what state it's in mind. Would certainly value your sage advice on my options. My aim is to keep the car OE looking, but with complimentary upgrades... a 250ish hp fast road (+ occasional track) goal seems ideal/achievable. I've already discussed ECU, injectors and cams with Lee, so this is definitely happening :)

I've been looking around trying to find a .48 turbine housing to match what you have above... without success; perhaps I'm not looking in the right places... can you assist in any way please? If you've got time, I'd also find a chat on the phone valuable....

Ok no problem. I'll have a look for you tomorrow and see if I have anything, I should have. I do know that I have a 0.48 that needs the internal waste gate divert hole boring, and re-drilling for 5 stud pattern. If you can machine, or know a friendly chap who will do it, then that's up for grabs as it's just kicking about i.e. you can have it (se below). It was for an external waste-gate application (hence not machined), and I didn't use it in the end. I just won't have the time to do it for you these days. I had a look on Ebay, nowt on there, but you could talk to Turbo Active as they used to carry stock.

One above is a bit like this, but 0.48 instead of 0.63:

I do have access to machining, but (excuse my lack of knowledge) this is where I need advice... is the maching needed to make it an internal wastegate? is it undesirable to use an external wastegate then?

No, external is great, just more complex, more cost, more heat in the engine bay - increased radiating surfaces, and actually not needed at this power level, so my preference is to keep it simple... stay internal waste gate.

Yes machining is to finish the housing for an internal waste gate. You can see the housing here:

You will see the flapper and outlet housing that actually forms the internal waste gate. The 0.48 housing kicking about needs the hole boring through for the gases to divert when the waste gate opens, and the 5 fixing locations for the outlet housing.

Well I have located an appropriate 0.48 housing to go with this, it's the recess flange type of the later design / generation exhaust 2-into-1 plenum fitments. If you have an earlier engine / car, then you can mill this recess out and go flat.

Right, well I have located a good .48 flange turbine scroll housing, cleaned up, and rebuilt the turbo with a Garrett factory refurb core, 360 thrust bearing etc as pictures below... I believe this is now going off to a good home :)
