Insurance

Postby blueg33 » Mon Sep 03, 2012 4:57 pm

Who do you guys use for limited mileage insurance? I am getting some scary quotes circa 2 x what I was paying to insure a TVR Tuscan which isn't exactly slow or reputed to have safe sensible handling

My GTA costs £50 pa on my multi vehicle policy with Footman James.

I think Mercedes Benz OC takes off 15%- worth the £40 or pa!

I didn't have a multi-car policy with Footman James (which was rather more than £50 for 3,000 miles p.a. - and you can carry miles over) but after 11 years with them, I've just saved over £160 by going to Direct Line, believe it or not (adding that to the policy for the family car)

I use ClassicLine and they seem pretty resonable.

Footman James cant cover me for occasional business use unless I am doing under £3k miles pa.

I am waiting for the quote on my multi car policy. I am current insuring 5 cars on multi car and lots of multi car policies struggle with that many vehicles! Anyone would think that 2 drivers are capable of driving more than 2 cars at any one time!

That'll be the difference then. I have no business use on mine. To be honest I was amazed at the breakdown between the cars (there is also the Mrs's Pug 306 diesel too). The Mercedes is the expensive one!

FJ seem to have got quite pricey recently (part of the AON group).
I don't have an Alpine on the road at the moment but my Clio V6 is with Hagerty who were by far the best deal.

Hagerty wont cover business use either

It makes no sense that the Tuscan and Ginetta were both cheaper to insure.

Both did 0-60 in around 4 secs, the Tuscan would do 185mph for the insane, parts are hard to get for both, bodies are grp, the Ginetta was modified.

A bog standard GTA turbo is pretty tame in comparison so I just don't get it. The only explanation insurers have given me is that its because "its a Renault sir" I wonder if the price would go down if I told them it was worth £20k?

Try Adrian Flux

Postby Tony Smith » Thu Sep 06, 2012 8:48 am

Just renewed mine - been with AON many years but now Footman James have bought them they have inflated the premium I paid last year by 40%! I rang round and Flux's were by far the best and really good service too. I got a multi car policy - 7 cars, many modified, all with agreed values, 3k a year for my daily driver and 1.5k on each of the other cars - all for £750. That was with 4 garaged and 3 parked off road total value around 45k. Gave me 10% club discount too.

The other way round. AON bought FJ a few years back and merged them last year as a cost saving exercise using the better known name (in the 'classic car' world).

Finally sorted at a great price. After some persuasion it was added to my family fleet policy for £145.

So I am insuring 4 cars the GTA having the smallest engine, for 2 people with business use and me with 9 points and 1 fault accident (don't ask) for £1000 pa
