did anybody see this program on channel 5 tonight, some crew doing up an E type jag for tv in londons east end. what did you think

I watched it, seemed like the return of Bernie from Chop Shop.

You could tell it was a channel 5 effort

Watching it now on plus one. Complete put up job and would hate to buy that car when they're finished.

I watched it. Hard to believe they did it in four weeks and at the cost they quoted unless they didn't include the labour cost of the five or six men working on it. They glossed over most of the detail but I suppose it's broadcast as 'light entertainment', with a few dramas and tantrums added, can't really expect much in a one hour programme with ads.
I'd be interested in your comments, andy001 regarding their preparation of the body and the use of all that filler. Is that normal practice?

Hi Andy,

Personally not that impressed! I watch programmes like these out of curiosity and because I think I might learn something, but you only see a fraction of the work they do, and I often think the costs attributed to the restoration are unrealistic (a la wheeler dealers!). To my mind there was an awful lot of body filler thrown back on the car! They also did little to the underside bar replace the shocks (or so they said).

Just my view - and it's only a TV programme - do you really think they could do a quality restoration in 4 weeks.....

Lastly, I also thought the 'expert' valuation was rather arbitrary - I couldn't see anyone giving close to £30 for tonight's car, but that's purely my opinion, and E TYpes, nice though they are, are pretty damn common anyway!

It's a copy of wheeler dealers....... Labour it's free in the east end

Yep, it's a bit like a UK version of American Hotrod. Great fun to watch - a true lesson in how not to manage your team! The American Hotrod guys were massive users of filler / Bondo, too.

And how staged was that reversing out of the paint booth?

I watched a bit of it but the first argument seemed so staged that I started chanel hopping. Didn't watch any of it after the fresh paint / reversing incident.

I agree wholeheartedly, it's probably because Mark Evans has a brain, whereas the rest, collectively, struggle to amass enough cells for half a brain!

yes pretty much standard prep for an old car its the only way to sort out all the dents and ripples. what i thought was stupid about the whole thing was it was a white car colour changed to red, but they did'nt take the engine out to paint the front chassie sections and bulkhead and i never even saw the bonnet off that painter was the most laid back guy ever most painters i've worked with would have punched him out for damaging a car they had worked all night to finish may be its the same tv company that produce eastenders
did any of you london boys recognise the arches and workshops shown in the program.

its all done the way it is to make aprogramme ...what do they care they are getting paid for it.

Itsbbthe same.for.these house makeovers ...bodgit quick looks good for.the program the two weeks.later the paint peels and filler drops out lol.

i live in the eat side.of south east and your right Pbil peopel think you drive engines 118 miles knock sumink.off the price in a deal then expect you to come and collect it for free get their money back all at your cost stunned i was must think.i am a monkey...i got news lol
