R5 T2

Postby TC17 » Mon Oct 01, 2012 7:26 pm

Hi All

Finally collected the R5 T2 from Ireland last week, I was surprised to make the 430 mile journey without breaking down as it was running like a complete pig, the engine has a terrible flat spot combined with a misfire and or just bad fueling, whatever it is I am sure it will be easy to sort (famous last words).

Anyway, pleased I have finally got the car back and can now start to plan a full rebuild over the winter including respray (colour change), replace roof panel, roll cage, suspension, race seats, harnesses, wheels etc.

Whilst I will remove the engine and box to do all this work, I plan to just carryout a general health check and service until later next year when I will then concentrate on the engine upgrades (apart from sorting a G/B oil leak and replacing the clutch if needed).

As I may use the car for a couple of weeks before i take it off the road, I have noticed the steering rack has quite a bit of play in it, on some racks I have had in the past there is the possibility to adjust play, does anyone know if this is the case with the T2 ?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Philidini

I read through your rebuild thread the other week, hope all is going to plan for you.

I am thinking (budget allowing) to replace my roof with the Aluminium one from GTO, if it proves too expensive then I'll have to huntv down an old 5 roof / shell which seem to be few and far between.

If you don't mind I'll drop you a line when I am at the stage of cutting the other one off.

Any other tips will be more than welcome.

Cheers

Tony
