GTA Replacement Rad

Postby blueg33 » Sat Nov 17, 2012 8:31 pm

I think I need a new rad, I am told a few people have purchased alloy rads. Please can they tell me where from and how much.

Cheers

Yes. I saw that one. Wondered if that's what people buy?

Ah yes, hadn't bothered to look where it was. Monster is quite right, order it from SD if he's got one or can get it still.

That Chinese one doesn't look the same as the ones I've fitted .It looks a bit ropey actually ...The outlets overhang the tanks etc ..
Should look like these .Fitted with a pair of cheapo fans and they seem to do the job 8) Or I can get a re-core and have a spare OE rad to do so .It'll be about 200 quid either way .The ali ones increase the coolant capacity by quite a bit .Teglen's took 15l to fill excluding the leak in the V

Where did you purchase that from?? I could do with a new rad too, but would like those fans as well... I noticed when I was refilling my GTA after replacing the water pipes, that the rad is showing its age.
Would be great to upgrade.

They all came from different sources but are the same rad .Pics above on Teg's and Mog's ,also fitted to JonV car with A/C no problem .

The fans are cheap Ebay ones .Again Teg or JonV have the details .You dont need the extra fitting kit as the std brackets all tie in quite nicely .

When mine went leaky, I just had it re-cored.
Only took a day or so, it came back looking like new.
Cant recall the cost, but dont believe it was that expensive.

The problem I have isn't leaks, but running on boost for more than 5 mins the temp gradually starts to climb. Eg 5th gear 90mph for 5 mins even in friday's cold weather saw the temp at circa 100 and a further 5 mins up to about 110. As soon as I back off temp goes back to normal. In traffic jams (eg 40 min queue to get into the NEC) its fine.

Lee reckons its the rad and I tend to agree. Looking at the design I suspect that they sludge up at the bottom and you can't easily flush.

Any other likely causes of my over heating problem?

Fans - http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/category/Fans,b.html

(That's where I got mine and I got two also as the loom's in place for two or you can wire up anyway as Lee did)

Try the thermostat also re overheating. When they get tired they don't open fully and again they're not an expensive or time consuming thing to rule out.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

I bought a radiator from axauto-parts in France last year for my A310V6. They do two for the GTA, one standard and one 'Europa cup' spec as below. They also do fans if you look under 'Systeme refroidissement' and then 'Ventilateur extra plat'. Prices include VAT but not shipping for which they charged Euro 17.96 for mine.
