Hi guys.
An update here for you regarding my intended 3.0 V6 Renault 19.
Well I am still all for giving this a go. Last week I bought myself a J-reg Renault Clio 16v for £480 in Glasgow. It required a few bits and bobs and an MOT, but with 83K and FRSH up to 73K it was a bargain. As I write this my good friend, who is babysitting the car and fixing it up for me has fitted most of the bits it needs and I collect it from him on the August Bank Holiday.
It's got a K&N air filter and a full exhaust system meaning power is somewhere around the 140bhp-mark.
The Clio will become my daily driver for a while, meaning I can take the 19 off the road and get cracking on the conversion. The first order of business will be to knock up a cardboard replica of the engine (as suggested to me by someone on here if memory serves) and to see what clearance issues are going to arise.
As the 19 will be off the road anyway I can take the time to think and do things properly. If there aren't going to be many major issues with the conversion then I'll be going ahead with it. I'm currently moving back in with my parents for a year or so having just finished University so I'll have plenty of time to spend on it.
As regards tuning, well I've set myself a target of 200bhp. A brief scout on the internet has shown that there aren't many off the shelf bits for the Z7X-767 engine apart from air filters/induction kits and the like, so my interim plans include a good quality induction kit and a port and polish of the head and inlet manifold (as much of it as possible). The engine doesn't appear to come with an ECU so I'm hoping that somewhere like Emerald will be able to sort the management out and with a decent power hike as well.
I'll also be needing an exhaust from the downpipe back. As it'll be in a 19 it will need to be custom-made so a good quality job should make for a nice power gain. I'm hoping that having the induction/exhaust, polished head and Emerald management will help to hit 200bhp, but if anyone knows of any specialist places where bits/services can be purchased then I'd be very grateful!
Hope everyone's OK.
Ben
