I have the same on my avantime....just gone lumpy lumpy misfiretastic today..not the front coils when I disconnected em one at a time.
plan to put 3 new coils in ...Have 2 Valeo coils, and a Portuguese one to go in the back 3... the original Sagem ones are supposed to be avoided. I have no idea which one has gone so will replace all the back 3.

have plugs ready to go...but these are ngk plfr5a-11 per GSF computer...but no idea if correct. Interested to hear what you use Lee.

The avantime workshop Manual states ngk pfr 6e-10

By rule of Renault the failed coil will always be the one that is most inaccessible.

the way we L7 pros do it is to check out the 3 accessable coils first using the connector plug off method, if they are all ok then remove the plenum etc and swop the 3 you just tried with the other 3, re-assemble again and carry out the test on the accesable ones again. this of course asumes you are not going to change them all anyway.
Lucky with the Laguna, on the CLio its a all covers off job.

Rears on the V6 Avantime are probably the worst of the lot and they fail all the time.

Weirdly the F4R never seems to have a failure so must be some design flaw with the V6 setup.

Today replaced the Back 3 coils (it was a defective valeo coil this time) also changed plugs (car is on 74k miles..so due) I too had the Bosch 4 prong ones)...the NGK ones seem fine on a quick test run.

We have 2 Laguna II V6's, and I have the Renault L7X manual in PDF if anyone needs it.
PM me with your email.

I also used the NGK plugs in both of ours, and replaced coils with those supplied by Euro Car Parts. £22 each I think.
Its worth replacing the inlet manifold upper gasket, as the gasket is plastic and seems to set like concrete as they get old. Resulting in induction air leaks.

Edit:
There is a train of thought over on the RenaultForums that Coil failure in many of the modern 2000> Pertol Renaults is due to heat build up caused by the engine Décor covers.
Heat = Electrical component failure.

So on both of ours, I have left the top plastic cover off. Meaning more air flow when the car is moving over the top of the engine. In Theory...
