Well there were 298 views of this post late last night and not a single offer of a running just dropped out of car Atmo lump; that's strange I wonder why that is
maybe people are interested after-all?
The problem with the deal I got into was that the requirement for the engine to be fresh out of a running car was never mentioned to me until I arrived to drop the engine off. As you can imagine I was far from impressed having put all the effort and costs in so far. I immediately felt like there was a ploy for a leverage for a further reduced deal; having already reduce the engine price from £450 plus cost of fuel (time you must be joking after-all my time comes free and I was getting paid handsomely.....well actually the going rate for a 2nd hand sold as seen non running engine) !!! Of course I accept that I agreed to pay a nit over £200 for my own second hand sump and crankcase. (I sincerely hope you still have my parts).
"Cheetah " having looked at said engine advised me of his concern that the engine was in poor condition inside due to visible rust on the backs of the valves. Lets face it though I was honest the engine had bee apparently rebuilt, but sat for 6 years or more to my knowledge; I seem to remember reading a post about these engines sweating so the engine could have been corroeded inside anyway we don't many of store engines in our living room do we
But I reduced the price a further £100; as I said I don't like to rip anyone off but feel that I am as fair as I can be, as anyone could be TBH.
But did "cheetah" say no take the engine away? No he accepted the deal at £"several hundred pounds", a sum of £250 . Although I admit he wasn't over the moon, but whose fault was it he had a bloke who'd driven and committed to a 300 mile round trip with a PRV in the back of his van at his own cost on his drive? Due to his protests of; I want an engine for £50 DELIVERED FOR FREE I told him that if the engine was totally useless then he should give me a ring ...I never received a call, not an IOTA until 3 months later well outside of my company policy for a 2.9 month fully guaranteed refund on second hand engine sold as seen engine. LOL but I argued my point and thought I don,t need this "Borrux" I would never have sold the lump if the deal was not for me to retain the parts already mentioned so I offered him a get out clause all it would cost would be the cost of his fuel and time like it had cost me ...seems fair to me...anyone disagree? Please see below;
So in order to rectify the issue I offered "Cheetah" the chance to get all of his money back and keep my reputation intact, as I said I have never ripped anyone off and don't ever intend to either. The offer stood "you deliver it back to me and "i'll give you all of your "several hundred" pounds back!! Now baring in mind the engine is now in pieces the engine could easily be transported in a diesel estate vehicle for example at far less than my high top van! and lets face it, I made £140 on the deal so another £110 of costs and a day of my time (remember my time counts for nothing in this deal) and nothing to show for it. So please forgive me if I DONT JUMP AT THE CHANCE
It frankly appears to me to be all one way traffic and so far its all been from me!
For the record having read through my correspondence; I was
NEVER OFFERED THE COST OF A RETURN TRIP TO COLLECT THE ENGINE IN ORDER TO GIVE A FULL REFUND ON A 2ND HAND ENGINE THAT THE PURCHASER HAD BEEN ADVISED HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 6 PLUS YEARS! DID I MUG HIM FOR THE MONEY; NO, HE HANDED ME THE CASH FROM HIS WALLET AT HIS OWN FREE WILL AND AS FAR AS I WAS CONCERNED ENTERED INTO AN AGREEMENT....SO WHERE IS MY PART OF THE BARGAIN?..HAND OVER THE HOSTAGES !! ALTHOUGH I DO ADMIT TO BEING OFFERED AN ATTRACTIVE DEAL WHEREBY I WAS ASKED TO PROVIDE HEAD GASKETS YEP PERHAPS YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO FUND THE WHOLE DEAL AND DELIVER IT TO A CUSTOMER PERSONALLY MYSELF; I MEAN WHILE WE ARE AT IT?!!
I believe "Cheetah's" expectations have been about as unrealistic as you can get! There are very few and Atmo lumps around let alone ones that have just dropped out of a running car ;they usually come out of cars that have stopped or crashed; SURPRISINGLY running ones are still being driven around their owners.
The fact that "cheetah" has proposed an unrealistic deal to someone else is not for me to sponsor and bale him out.....would you? I kept to my part of the deal..now its your turn.
The fact is if you were that concerned and wanted to recoup costs "Cheetah" could sell the good bits on e-bay I'd pay £50 for a cam £100 for a crank £25 for the cam covers work it out; on a free listing weekend if you dropped them in cheaper you'd still get your money back and that's not mentioning selling the heads for £50 each ...these things are now rare if you need a head you need one, and the fact that there may be issues with studs that may need replacing, so what, drill them out and fit 8mm studs and open out the manifold holes; its amazing what can be done by an engineer!! So how bothered are you about being out of pocket ? No "Cheetah" is not bothered at all, so not bothered that "cheetah" is going to hold my parts and me to ransom.rather than accepting the realistic position faced by us all when buying used car parts.
I spent £450 on an item and despite checking it was straight with a straight edge it turned out it was lozenged in shape; I then had to pay to refurb my original item and finish it at my own cost; did I GO RUNNING BACK TO THE ORIGINAL VENDOR?...NO ...I SWALLOWED MY LOSS and got on with it...sh... it happens!!
In my own opinion this is not a way to do business with members of this forum/club.
As far as I am concerned there have been a number of people who know what they are talking about and are held in high esteem in the Alpine fraternity have all confirmed my own thoughts regarding the realistic pitfalls of purchasing a second hand PRV or any engine and those same people have spent money and have found they have not been as lucky as they would have hoped.
I look forward to hearing back with a reasonable proposal as to how I get the sump and lower crankcase and pick up that belonged to the engine supplied to you by myself ,as far as I am concerned I have more than full filled my end of the bargain...so where is "Cheetah's" part?
Hint its your turn now so do the right thing! After all; all 300 views were all offers of a running engine wern't they and not people that were interested in the topic dicussed?!
