Well, new cap fitted and drive to Silverstone and back, no recurerence of the problem of fluid bubbling out, but temp still not getting right up to 90 degrees when moving, it gets there when idling so maybe the rad is just being efficient?

Remember the GTA`s stat is rated at 88 degrees, so during normal running the needle should be below the 90 mark on the gauge. Mine runs about 1 to 1.5mm to the left of the 90 mark.

Thanks guys, mine sits about 2 to 3 mm left of the 90 mark, so is probably about right.

(Before the rad was replaced it was always at 90 unless turbo was on boost in which case it gradually climbed.)

Do you have a proper GTA/Renault thermostat fitted as the cheap alternatives are wrongly designed for the application. The sealing washer on the bottom of the cheaper alternatives are too small and constantly allow water around the whole system and don't control the temp/water flow properly.

That said it was a very cool day and my Atmo has a 3 core rad and a genuine thermostat fitted it sat at 86-87 degrees on an aftermarket temp gauge so I would not think that was too out of the ordinary.

Previously with a cheap thermostat fitted the engine took ages to warm up and burnt huge amounts of fuel, now it comes up to temperature withing 2-3 miles approx.

Thats a question for CLee as he rebuilt the engine. I would imagine he fitted a genuine one.
