Boost gauge plumbing in...

I'm finally getting round to fitting a boost gauge (mechanical) to the GTA.
I was intending to feed the vaccum hose down the middle of the car - centre consul - however I cant see any easy way of doing this without removing it completely.
So, can anyone advise how if they have carried this installation out and if so which route did you use?

You should be able to move the tunnel just enough to hide the pipework .It is only held by 4 small screws .Otherwise it's a case of tucking it under/down the sides the carpet/rear seats .

OK a bit more trim has come out here :lol: but the tunnel will move up and back with a bit of care .You can see one of the recesses for the small screws at the bottom .

Remove ash trays, feed in below ecu and you will be able to fish out.
You don't have to remove console.

Thanks.
I noticed some screws on either side (two near the front and two by the rear seats) but they dont look small and was concerned they held on more than just the tunnel.
I presume it is those you're referring to?

Ash trays. I removed the trays but then you're left with internal plastic shrould. I was looking to remove that, but looks a bit fragile and not sure how they're held in.

They have a dorty great special washer that they fit into covered by a black plastic cap .

As above, I ran mine down the middle ok.
You might want to use a straightened out metal Coat hanger as a fishing tool. Worked for me :-)

A wire coat hanger is the single most useful tool in my tool box

I've managed (by pure luck) to fish it from the rear ash tray to the ECU, but getting it from the rear ash tray to the front is proving a bit more involved.
Managed to find some wire (kid's old fishing net) and tried to push that from the front to the rear but I think it's too thick and fouls on the rear ash tray base. So, once you've lifted out the ash trays do the plastic base below the ash trays come out ?

How about uncliping the heater control panel, and manoeuvring it out of the way to suite, then you can fish both forward and back to the rear ash tray. :wink:

Thanks for the assistance. I got hold of a wire coat hanger and yes that did the trick.

I now have the vaccum hose running from the ECU to the front of the car.
Now.....Any tips on feeding through the bulkhead ? Presume it's a case of hacking the sealant away opening it up which I'm a bit reluctant to do.

Also, my wing indicator fell off this evening - I've posted a Wanted note - can you still get these new / are they are shared item with another model?

So, I have now installed the gauge, connected it up to the pipe that feeds the recirculating valve (dump valve I believe it's called) and took it for a run. Foot down in second and the gauge on the dash goes pretty much 3/4 of the way over or perhaps just a tad more than that, however, the newly installed gauge reads just around 5 psi :shock:

Now I know my car is not as quick as it use to be, but it still pulls and accelerates fairly swiftly but would it really do that with just 5 or so psi :?:

I'm now wondering if their is a leak in the pipe fixings etc. but it the gauge reads good vacuum then I cant see how it can be.
Thoughts anyone ?
I suppose I could connect a tyre set at 10 psi to the feed to the gauge and check it's reading correctly.

Could be leak somewhere but I'd put money on a weak actuator and you've just got used to it .Still worth check the gauge is reading right .One good way to check is look at how much it cost :wink: :lol:
