GTA Carpets - Odd Question

Postby blueg33 » Tue Jun 18, 2013 9:20 pm

Does anyone know if the carpets in a GTA are wool, man made or a blend.

It looks like carpet dye is very good at rejuvenating carpets but doesnt work well on 100% man made fibres

Cheers

When they get damp I'd suggest from the smell that they're made from the chest & armpit hair of turkish wrestlers.
But that is only a guess 8)

Ah so thats what the smell is - you are clearly more familiar with Turkish wrestlers than I am.

My familiarity lies with fragrantly scented beautiful ladies.............

Sorry, nodded off into dreamland for a minute

Right. Whilst I sulk that the GTA today failed its MOT I decided to get on with starting the carpet re-trim.

So far so good. Pulled off the original carpet and cleaned the residual fluff away (bit like plucking a chicken), then re-inforced one of the side panels where it was old and broken.

Sprayed the panel and the back of the carpet with high temp impact adhesive. (Specifically designed for car carpets) et voila.

'scuse feet.

Carpet isn't the heavy duty carpet weave that you'd traditionally expect, however this has a four way stretch on it, so unlike a lot of materials it will form round the complex shapes.

Also I'm putting in new mats anyway so it'll be doubled up in the areas that count.

So far so good. Seats need to come out to do the main section but MOT is more pressing depending on timing.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Those look really good. What carpet did you use?

Carpet is Veltrim from here:

http://www.vanguard-conversions.co.uk/product_p/vel.htm

I bought it off them because a) they sell the cans of glue with it, and b) they've gone to the effort to make instructional videos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3z8zrtaUEI

I was tempted by the blue to keep the look more standard, but in the end went anthracite as it's easy to then get mats (from Mr TopMat) to match. Obviously they're in thicker carpet so hopefully should look good.
