Uprated Suspension

Postby robbyman » Wed Jul 03, 2013 12:16 pm

Clee is just about to start a renovation for me on a silver Alpine and I wanted to get some thoughts from members of parts I want to change, and to try to liven the board up a bit.

I am looking to add some more modern suspension such to lower and stiffen slightly and I wondered frome experiance what is best, or if indeed it is worth it over the standard.

Thanks

Rob

p.s I am in the market for some if there is any anybody has, new of course.

Info was to donut again I think I would use Spax and standard spring rates. My springs are 30% uprated and I rarely use it on track so softer on the road would have frobably been better.

I have had GAZ units for the past 4 years, initailly an issue with bottom mounting, but all sorted at their cost and have been fine since.

How do you find the ride and handling compared with standard?

Lowered too, rather good actually.
However, mine is the only GTA I have driven in anger, and I like to get pretty angry with it.
I dont have any nervousness at speed, on corners or when in full flight.

Ride is subjective but for me with 300lb front springs and 400lb rears I think it's acceptable rather than perfect. I am however tempted to try a standard rate as shopping the springs isn't a terrible job. Initially I had 400lb fronts and 500lb rears which wasn't pleasant at all. The Gaz units are ok and do their job but maybe the springs are too hard for them to show how well they are controlling the suspension. Also the Gaz don't take long before they start to look a little shabby as they oxidise quite quickly.

Trevor.

Don't rate the Gaz shocks at all.
2 of mine leaked. Have had them rebuilt. But yes they do look shabby.
Get the spax.

I have tried standard shock absorbers, Spax and Koni and found that Koni have been the best.
Hope this helps!

I have just bought and received the Spax coil overs, but waiting on the news on the adaptors (top mounts) to buy along with the springs.
