Barn Find A610 - Rare Opportunity - First £6K buys

A610 for sale.

3 previous owners. Current owner at least 13 years.

Mileage showing is 16707. There is no paperwork or history to back this up but I know the car has hardly been driven during the current ownership.

Car is a known club car that has been stored for many years following the emigration of the owner. It was believed exported but in fact stayed in the UK. The car is now being sold by the owners sons to make space.

Northants area. Car can be delivered in Midlands / M25 / SE area weekend of 28/29 Sep by Simon21 if required.

No history / paperwork except V5 which is present and correct. Keys present. Jack plug security key present.

Starts/Runs but does not drive. Suspect clutch slave cylinder. Gears all select. Brakes seized on (rear pads will need to be removed to tow).

Engine or ancillary in engine bay area noisy. It is hard to identify the source of the noise. For example one of the rear bumper supports has fallen down and is jammed against the exhaust.

Engine bay and subframe have been colour coded / blue yellow. Photos of older restoration available.

Much cosmetic work required. Car has been repainted in liquid/pearl yellow. Originally solid yellow. Paint peeling on font bumper and some other areas.

Interior has dog hairs and drivers seat bolster has been clawed by dog.

Extensive stereo/video/alarm installation requires removal. Some trim may have been damaged as a result.

All usual rots spots have been previously welded ie sills & front floor pans. Hence sills in primer. These are not recent repairs and it is hard to assess the quality and if there has been further corrosion since they were carried out.

Vendor does not want to ebay and does not want to be besegied with tyre kicker and time wasters.

Looking for best offer in region of £6000

In my opinion this is not a car to buy and re-sell on for a quick profit. I believe it requires significant investment in terms of time and money and would be best suited to someone that really wants an A610 to keep for themself. In the right hands it could make a very nice car. It would be great for it to stay in the UK rather than going abroad to be broken for spares.

No. The owner had another A610 which is still overseas and may be repatriated and also for sale at some point.

A lot of the photos focus on the areas that need attention which makes the car look quite bad but as you will be making an offer based largely on the photos I thought this was important but please remember it is still essentially a complete intact and running A610.

And yes I am tempted but I really do have too many projects on at the moment and the garage is full to the rafters!

That really does look like it need a huge amount of work, complete or not. £3k over priced or I'd buy it.

Good project for someone, would be nice to see it back to standard and returned to it's original solid yellow. I reckon yes it does look expensive on the face of it but with recent A610 sales being 10-15K you have quite a bit of money in the pot for the restore. Plus find another one for sale anywhere!!!

Yes I'm sure it's true that it's Georges car (yellow subframe etc) but how did it come to be in such a state??????

George's previous posts showed he was a bit of a perfectionist with all the cars including the 610 that was resprayed the metallic orange and the engine build on this one.

Yes it's Georges car but he's now abroad and not particularly well at the moment. He's not fully aware of the current condition of the car and his son's don't want him to be as it would upset him.

The plates were removed by them.

It's a long story and involves a dodgy garage but it is what it is as pictured.

If you look on the old website there are some photos of the older restoration many years ago.

A lot of the work was done with good intentions but perhaps not quite to the standards that were intended. In addition time is not kind to standing cars.

The wheels would come up well with just a diamond cut to the outer rim and only the rears seem to have suffered. AZEV had a LOT of warranty claims for this back in the day and was in a small part a contributory factor to their demise!

In my experience ....GTA or 610 ...Top money doesn't always get you the finished article .Vested interest of course but you can easily spend the same geting them right whether you pay 6 or 15
