I have now replaced the carpets in all but the engine bay. The old ones were very nasty greeny grey and looked horrible.

I acquired (via ebay) some anthracite get backed carpet as used in new Mini's. Its approximately 6mm thick and not as stretchy as the carpet Darren used but was suprisingly easy to work with. Because of its weight it did not need glouing to the floor so I used less than 1 can of high temp adhesive. I sed the old carpets as templates with fine tuning as I installed the new ones.

All in all I am pleased with the result (rubbish pics but you get the idea)

Yes well done Nick. It makes a massive difference to the look, feel and dare I say smell?

Mine isn't quite as neat as yours around the hump in the floor, but I agree on the smell front. It almost smells like a new car.

Engine bay cover is yet to be done, I will re-paint the black edge too. My carpet budget for the engine bay has just been used up on a coolant hose fix which is more pressing

Looking good Nick. There's nothing like improving these great cars and doing it yourself gives you a great feeling too.

Nice.

I found the hole in the old one when it dripped petrol in my eye as I was lying under the car. Hopefully MPG will improve now and the risk of a fiery death is reduced :)

Lee, got the car home fine, but I think you need to "fess up"

WTF did you do the fuel guage.......................

For the last year it has only read out a work of fiction, now, it appears to work! I reset the pod once I had filled up with fuel as it was showing 8888888 because the battery had been disconnected and low and behold.........

I can only think of 2 things

1. Draining the fuel tank fully somehow reset the float?
2. That pipe that was replaced connects up with the flow meter [according to my workshop manual] and maybe it got knocked or somthing.

Anyway good result :)

Feck knows !! 50 quid
Tank out and laid on it's side is all .........Best not to question these things ...no flow meter on Turbo cars ,all calc'd by injector duty ..

Anyway ...how hard was it to push in the garage ?

Havent put it away yet. Its dragging it out uphill is my worry, pushing it in down hill is childs play.

Averaged 29mpg on the way home [31mpg on the mway] so its ok going forwards
