Carburetor Problems

Postby gareth004 » Fri Dec 06, 2013 3:25 pm

Hi,

I bought a GTA Carb model earlier this year. I have problems with the standard carb which has a small flat spot on 1500 revs. I have taken it to a garage where he said I would need a wax stat as choke does not work, which I cannot source.

Can anyone suggest anything to help or maybe an alternative solution.

The car has only covered 29,00 miles and would like to keep it original. However, if this is too problematic then would consider an alternative.

Thanks, first post on site.

Looks like the holley is the way forward, but would have liked to source original carb. Don't have any pictures but should have! Located in North Wales nr Rhyl, put car away for winter now.

Thanks for the welcome.

Hi Gareth,

Met Blue with Black Roof I presume?

Turbodog (Andrew Jones) from Colwyn Bay has been trying to get in touch with you, might be worth PM'ing him and meeting up maybe.

We have the Northern Meet coming up on January 26th so pop that in the diary if you can make it (see events section) and willing to give it a run out (they don't like being laid up trust me).

Don't be tempted to spend money on the standard carb set up. Even in good condition they often cause problems (Cue John C :0)) especially if the car isn't used regularly. The Holley conversion seems to work really well offering better performance and better economy. I had a fuel injection engine fitted to mine but its a lot more grief than bolting on a Holley :0).

How did you guess? yes that's the car.

Andrew has been after me? I don't know him but a guy who I know does and says he's really into these cars.

I could be tempted to make meet in car as its going off to be painted in March. Black roof will be gone then.

I haven't tried to get one for a few years but I'd be surprised if Mr Sage, or Simon Auto or Meca Parts doesn't have them in stock.
