K701 in for the RATS' treatment

Postby clee » Sun Dec 01, 2013 2:27 pm

One more done and another straight in it's place 8) This is the 4th to come in this year and we'll have to see if it's a contender for RATROT of the year
Chop it out and tidy up the rest .Subframe and such all looks fairly solid but have not started poking as yet .
Image
Should have the guts dropped tomorrow ,strip out all the front running gear and tank then prod :|

Rear gear all stripped and put to one side for recycling at a later date ...I have enough parts in stock to swap over and just need to get some more bits off for powdercoat then can build up refurbed rear .Had a few casualties ...brake cables, engine and gearbox mount + both lower wishbone inners have seized bolts in bushes .....
Image
Image
Some replacement bits ready ,only need the frame as have all the rest ready to go .
Image
Clutch seen better days but we have a new one from the Dieppe run to pop in .
Image

Rot ....just prodded the footwells and some ' temporary ' repairs fell out
Image
Image

Rear turrets don't look too bad but have yet to look at the sills ...they sound a bit crunchy .....

Thanks for the updates.... I am still cringing.... I told you it would be a challenge.. Poor car, it has been abused, just happy it is now getting some true TLC and not a quick bodge.

All stripped out now and starting to work through the pile of bits .
Just a general clean of the engine and replace the water pump ,clutch and a few hoses .All mounts are to be replaced as only one is any good ..Image
Old design GAZ to be replaced with new I have in stock .Swap the springs over .
Image
Image
Hubs all seem good so wire brush ,rust treat then paint .
Image
Rot in footwells ,all carpets out ,the floor and inner sills look OK but we are going to chop into the outer and see what lies beneath ...

Thanks Martin, I would love to attend, but I am not pushing this refurb. Perfection takes time, they say!! Plus I very much doubt that it would be re sprayed before this date.
My GTA is off road for the winter too, I try to avoid using these cars when the road are salty. Maybe a meet later in the year, when weather is warm and dry!!!
Thanks anyway.

Getting to the end of the rot ,should all be done tomorrow .Both sills pretty bad but looked OK ish from the outside inside ....... .Would seem any signs of a ripple on the lower edge and it'll need a fair bit of work .Both leading edges done + a bit up top on drivers wheel arch .Turret bottoms in progress and then she'll be back nextdoor at RATS HQ for more rubbing and repairs .
