Time for an update:

after a long struggle with the piston rings supplier who first sent me the wrong set (gta atmo instead) and then sent me a rubbish quality set, i eventually bought another set as could not waste any more time and it was going nowhere...

one weekend last month, went up to London to put the block back together with Martin F. He used his new favorite toy and made sure the rings were properly gapped ;)

Image

then we fitted the Cranshaft and set the liners height

Image

then got the liners/pistons/rods together

Image

and in

Image

it's amazing how much you can achieve in a full day dedicated to it, makes a change from my usual few hours here few hours there... great sense of achievement. Thanks a million Martin for your invaluable help, as always.

then back home, fitted the base plate with silicone gasket

Image

and the back plate with new seal

before

Image

after

Image

Image

splash cover

Image

Then had to take them off again as the base plate moved when i torqued it up so it was not flush with the block, which would have caused sealing issues when fitting the timing cover... all back together, then oil pick up and sump with new gasket.

probably said before, had both heads skimmed and cleaned

Image

reassembled the valves

Image

Image

:D

in the meantime, the grubby subframe, wishbones etc were taken apart

Image

Image

Image

and cleaned

Image

ready for galvanising and came back all nice and shiny, yeah!

Image

that's it for now ;)

Out of interest Cedric how much was galvanising? (Really, really should have been done by Renault)
I'm just here for the gasoline.

for the content of the boot (except for pram) galvanising only cost me £90. had to be blast it before though. well worth it really!

Are you going for all new bushes in those galvanized wishbones?

I think someone (Mr Monkey perhaps) has mentioned the heat from the galvanising process being a concern with warping parts before, but they're pretty chunky so I'd imagine you'll be fine. Good long term plan!

Hi Martin, yes I did, under your strict instructions ;) :up
with mini mogster on the mend I should be able to get back to it on my return from holiday back home, I might pay that piston ring supplier a visit while i'm there :axe ;)

I do remember reading somewhere about that concern, I don't think it was Mr Monkey though as he has galvanised his delorean chassis.

bushes - well they were all replaced not that long ago if I remember correctly and look in good condition (with the exception of 2 of them that I managed to damage while removing them) so I might just re-use them
