Blower switch

Guys, Has anyone fitted a blower switch from another model or another make to stop the blower from running all the time the ign. is on & engine running...1988 GTA...trying to stop the frozen knuckle syndrome.

It's easier than that. Remove the vent carefully and tape up from behind or block in another way.

Works a treat.

Kind of linked to the blower switch..................

On my GTA, the blower doesn't really work.

If it comes on at all, it will blow away merrily for about 20 seconds, then start to slow, and eventually stop.
Then it's dead until the next time you stop and restart with it in high speed position.

Is there some sort of resistor on it or something ?
I know I had a similar problem with the old Ford Mundane, the resistor and the loom used to burn out and you'd lose one speed at a time until eventually you had nowt................

It's not a major inconvenience, but it can get a bit chilly here, so it's handy with a heater and a demister. :)

Yes there are two types. One uses a VW resistor part and the other (earlier I think but someone could confirm that) has it built in.

What year is yours?

Bob your car has A/C so the resistor is under the cover in the middle, sort of in line with the center of the wipers but under the cover.. and attached to the upright part that is apart of the panel that the spare wheel is in... you will see a thing that looks like a few coiled up wires inside a metal case.. this is the part that controls the speed of the motor.

I find that the "close" levers on the middle vents are enough to stop cold air blasting in during winter / spring.
Wish they were more powerful in summer! ;)
