My car has a BBR 'chip' ,it looks like a chip ,smells like a chip ,put salt'n'vineger on it .It is a bit of electronics that alters the factory settings anyway ,supposedly running 12 psi .What are the implications for further mods :?: Looking to upgrade Turbo ,can I just bolt this on and a gauge ,or do I need swap the BBR out as well and put a boost adjuster in its place :?

Get me a picture of the inside of the ecu....

Is there a cluster of chips and the top left has the BBR sticker on it?

Has it been piggyback soldered in or does it look like original fittment?

The reason why I ask is I heard that BBR just adjusted the actuator and turned the boost up, and stuck a sticker on the chip. 12psi is within the factory standard map limits, so there is no gains from 'remapping' at that level. If they could have remapped it you'd expect it to be 14psi, and remove the boost cut.

If it is 'chipped' then putting a bigger turbo on isnt a problem, you would still need to turn the boost up to get the full potential. As I said above, don't know if the BBR mod would have removed the boost cut.

Its a new chip or sticker :lol: I'll have another look but from memory the chip with the sticker is bot right .It might not matter as I could just regard it as being standard :?: Was just thinking aloud ,if its not a standard setup to start with how do you know if the new bits are behaving as they should ,are they adversely affected by the previous mods ? As long as the previous items don't degrade the factory settings it should be ok.The BBR thing is not an addition ,it's a replacement ,so worst case probably does nothing .
I'll take a piccy of the unit .

I say top left, you say bottom right - depends which way we're both looking at it! :lol:

Its a shame, I sold my last standard GTA ecu a few months back, you could have tried it to see if there were any differences...

BK48 RNV6TPH1 .The conversion was tested by BBR May 98 (found an invoice in the history file ).

It looks different to the others which are blue enamel looking, so think its not just a sticker

Thats the one.....see...top left! :lol: That chip is the map chip, so it is different to all the rest. Normally the inside of the circuit boards are sprayed in clear laquer after assembly, so if a new chip has been installed, much of this laquer around the chip would have been broken/removed.

Is strange if it is a new chip, that they only set it to 12psi. It wouldnt have made as much power as their competitor Superchips at the time who set theirs to 14psi.

Sort of bot middle ,SSWest ish :lol: Can I just add to this setup as if it wasn't there .Will the ART ( club discounted :shock: :lol: ) boost upgrade be OK with it :?:

Yes you can...if the chip is real then you should see even more gains. Id reccomend getting a boost gauge sorted so you can check you are running 12psi. Obviously jumping to 14 odd is not going to as much as a gain as someone who was running at 9/10.

BBR my asp :evil:
Glad I didn't pay for it :lol:
Now it might not be down to the 'chip' ,maybe there's something else amiss ,but have fitted a boost gauge and got the following .
Connected to DV vac pipe, -10 & 8.5 PSI, in place of std gauge
9 psi :evil: :evil:

Now I'm :? Have done nothing more than fit the manual boost controller ,left it wide open and now getting 12 psi .The only extra bit is 15 cm of extra pipe to the boost controller .
