Gearbox oil seals

Postby Miles » Wed Jul 30, 2014 3:14 pm

Can anybody confirm this is the correct seal for the Renault UN1 gearbox?
I don't have a dedicated Renault dealer near me, so ordering parts is always hit and miss.
I also ordered the internal o ring, but apparently there inability? Does anyone know where I can obtain these from and there part number.

Just thought I'd let you guys know.
I have found a UN1 gearbox specialist.
He has done lots of work for Gt40 owners, Delorean, lotus, R21 as well as alpine work for the German and French. Although now retired, is still kept busy, rebuilding UN1 boxes for customers as far a field as the states and Oz.

If you google UN1 you will find his name over and over. Anyway he is Chris Cole phone number 01952 416051.

He has talked me through all issues with regard to my current leaking gearbox.
And the area I was looking in to to re-sleeve my driveshafts. Speedi sleeves.
Chris confirmed this would work and has used this to repair shafts himself.
Just to hear that was great as I was reluctant to purchase, without some feedback.

I'm not sure about these seals.
According to the manual they should have 3 lips inside.
Does anyone know the correct part number for later mod state gearbox seals.

There's a set on ebay - could be useful to compare with. Not sure but I doubt they're genuine but who knows what's best out there:

What I like is now Ebay try to get me to go back with ads on other pages, picturing some kind of male-female bliss where couples cooo together over gearbox seals. :wtf

Surely she should be looking more like this?

Daren, Lee,
Yes I spotted those on eBay last night and the seal looks different I.e you can count 3 lips.
Hence the doubt. Lee, do you fit the renault ones or the ones of eBay?

Dave
If you read the front page of the repair note (not the gearbox repair manual) I sent it clearly states that the seals have been modified & these are the correct seals for UN1 boxes.

Rich
ps: part numbers for fuel pipes have been sent to NPDF for stock level enquiry

Cheers Rich.
John thanks for posting the picture, however Rich
had sent me both the tech guide plus manual.

Where it falls down however is by not showing the old mod state for comparison.

Rich ...... thanks for the info on the modified seals. I have deleted my post showing the cross section of the older one as shown in the Gear Box Repair Manual so as not to lead to any confusion for anyone reading this thread in the future.
Cheers
