Club Alpine Renault

Postby Rocketman » Fri Oct 24, 2014 9:36 am

I am still a bit new in the World of Alpines and just found there is another Alpine Club in the UK. Does it make sense to have two clubs catering for a relatively low number of cars?

Anybody thought of merging the 2 clubs?

Ok, to give a sensible answer (and feel free to chirp up otherwise if you're in disagreement) but when RAOC first started it was really just the forum and loose collective of like minded people.

CAR had little to no web presence at the time and were very focused on the A110 generation of cars.

Steve put the site together primarily to give GTA and 610 owners a voice. From there it became a club after we all agreed we liked what he'd done and perhaps should formalise it a bit more. That was quite a while ago now.

A lot of us on here (myself included) were members of CAR but switched allegiances at the time feeling that we were better represented and better served by RAOC. I've no particular gripe with CAR, (some do) but at that time the GTAs and 610s weren't their focus and it was all run via paper and magazine. We didn't have the instant response of the forum.

I believe it's changed in CAR a lot since then and their website is massively improved (as you might expect). Mergers and Acquisitions eh? It's come up before....

Darren and all

Thanks for your feedback. Although I appreciate that there could have been a different approach in the past, today it would make perfect sense to merge.

Today on the road in the UK: (taxed, SORN)
A610: 25, 19
GTA Turbo: 71, 102
GTA Le Mans: 4, 2
GTA V6: 33, 51
Source: DVLA 24/10/14

If you include all previous Alpines (A106-A310) there can't be more than 300-350 cars in total in the UK, halve of them actually on the road. That is really a small number.

How many paying members do we have at the moment? I
Are there formal contacts with CAR?

We could ask our members to see who's in favour of at least exploring the options with CAR.

Hmmm I hear where you're coming from but a lot of water has passed under that bridge and there's still probably some out there who see us as a bunch of splitters...

answer to your questions...
a lot of members
you can ask members but do you think mr D will give up the club he has built up over the years..... ask yourself why are there 2 clubs? plus CAR is like many French clubs... taken over by politicians to put it politely otherwise some forum spy from CAR will complain to Mr D and demand he delete the thread or something..... this club is all about the passion for the cars and no politics thanks to the Mr D Dictatorship if it aint broke..... plus we have an alliance with the Renault Classic Car Club so why do we need to Merge with CAR.....
people are free to be in both clubs look at Big MVS we don't take him for a once a year stoning session in a pub car park to punish him for his ways because he sneaks over to the dark side now and again.....

ummm, just the way the European Union works so wonderfully well, we all try and hang on to our seperate identities, cats in a sack... I see little point, both clubs have their unique approach, and the better for it too. As to the numbers of cars and owners, I think you will find the practical reality is there are far less owners than cars, as a good proportion have a couple of plastic "assets" :hang :geek: .. and certain cases multiple in their grave yard :D Rather coincidentally they are all on here LOL
