CAR SOS on ch 4

Postby clee » Fri Dec 19, 2014 12:55 pm

At last a program that goes some way to show the reality .Forget that Wheeler Dealer bullocks .
OK they still have stupid timeframes and no budgets are mentioned but then it has to be entertainment at the end of the day .

This and that there 'A whatever is Born ' are the only ones I can watch without wanting to throw something at the telly :axe

+ Fuzz is a Midlander and also a drummer so doubly sound in my book ......

Agreed, but the 3 week timescale for every restoration they do seems a pointless artificial deadline that they can't possibly meet. At least Fuzz does seem to do a proper job.

Ed on Wheeler Dealers surprises me sometimes with his 'not sounding quite right' technical descriptions. I watched the Spitfire one last night and during the compression test of the engine he was quoting readings such as 170 bar when it was obvious the gauge reading was 170 psi. Surely his 'knowledge' would have prevented him from using the term bar when it's so obvious you couldn't achieve that pressure with a car engine's compression ratio.

Also, when unbolting the cylinder head in the correct sequence he waved the workshop manual at the camera to demonstrate that he was following the correct sequence but referred to the diagram with the manual propped upside down against the windscreen. He actually used the manual twice in the programme upside down. But as Lee says, it's done for entertainment so technical correctness sometimes looses out.

I still watch them all though, as entertainment, and occasionally some useful information/leads can be found. Beats most of the other rubbish on the box.

Where I currently work, we recently supplied them a load of parts for a Giulietta Spider. Sounds like the car was in a pretty bad state, as it needed everything. I will be very interested to see the finished car.

If I remember correctly, Fuzz was a Practical Classics Mag writer. Even though his taste in classics is Margret Thatcher level conservative, he seems like a decent guy.
The other guy on it is a complete twat. I think he was on another motoring show some years back and he was a twat then. Almost as bad as the one that did a sky footy show and a car show, can't remember his name (maybe tim) but he made me consider self-harming..... only because he wasn't in arms reach to harm instead! ::T ::W ::A ::T :axe

Well yes that goes without sayng .
The bloke actually doing the work is always basically sound if not a bit misguided and dazzled by all the attention .Whereas the bloke swanning around the place thinking he's contributing because he has the time to fanny about travelling all round the country on a jolly is in it for the kudos from those who no nothing about the process .
I defy any of the feckers to make a living based on their own merits

... not seen it yet, but not another twot project manager then... must keep to the baseline and oh that is outside my budet, but my budget didn't include all the preliminaries of understanding what work needs to be done, or the testing at the end, or that there were no specifications, and then the... oh heck we are out of hours and not even started the build yet... that kind? :) think we have all been there laugh! Think I'll watch it as therapy then, and know better how to spot a twot in future! :D
